FYN has updated the Lady Bobcats’s Summer Camp Report with a highlight video.
The Gilmer Lady Bobcats’ basketball team attended the basketball camp in Pickens County. The camp featured middle school, freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity basketball teams from over two different school systems. The teams scrimmaged against each other in various schools in the Pickens County school system, from the elementary to the high school.

The Lady “Cats” played tough in all the competition levels. The varsity seemed to work diligently on the post game on offense, and combined a plethora of zone looks on defense. They did have trouble getting the ball in the basket offensively, however, they seemed to compensate with an extremely high level of defense, picking a plethora of pockets, and filling the passing lanes repeatedly.

The junior varsity played persistent defense as well. In a scrimmage versus Habersham, Gilmer scored its first basket off a steal, not an abnormal occurrence during the camp sessions. The Lady “Cats” were unable to hold a 13-8 halftime lead, falling 29-28 in a nailbiter decided by a last second free throw.

The ninth grade team had good size and matched up well with teams, even when pitted against older more experienced opponents.
The Gilmer middle schoolers were not as organized as their older “Cats;” many were still learning the game. However, the highlight of the week had to be when the Gilmer eight graders battled the older more experienced Pickens High School ninth grade team to a 26-26 stand still.
