Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce Report

At Thursday night’s Board of Commissioner’s meeting, Chamber of Commerce President Paige Green presented the second quarter report for 2011. The report was optimistic, revealing an increase in hotel and motel tax collections and outlining new advertising projects for the county. The report showed that July’s New Says Thanks You Build an Ark Foundation weekend gave a boost to Gilmer’s economy, bringing hundreds into Ellijay and the surrounding area.

Green also reported that the chamber is now fully staffed, filling one vacant position and hiring a Tourism and Special Events Coordinator. In addition to the staffing announcements, Green told the board that a 138 acre tract of land on Eller Road was recently purchased by investors. The investors, she said, are open to suggestions of how to utilize the land.
