“Cats” Clobber Coahulla Creek’s Colts

The Gilmer High School Bobcats basketball team traveled to Coahulla Creek to take on the Colts. Both the Lady “Cats” and boys Bobcats were successful. The Lady Bobcats rode the Lady Colts to a 62-26 victory, and the Bobcat boys beat the Colts 64-50.The Lady Bobcats opened the game with a suffocating defense that held the Coahulla Creek offense scoreless for minutes at a time, while also limiting most of the Lady Colt’s offensive possessions to one shot. By the end of the first quarter, the visiting Lady “Cats” had scratched out a 21-9 point lead.

The second quarter became more lopsided as the home team was held to zero field goals, and did not score until two free throws with 12.6 seconds left in the half. Conversely the Lady “Cats” brought the thunder and increased the lead to 39-11 at half time.

The second half was much like the first, with the Lady Colts looking like lost fillies on both ends of the floor. By the end of the third quarter Gilmer led 49-20.

With back ups playing most of the fourth, the Lady Bobcats held on for a 49-20 victory.

The boys’ game was not much different as the male Bobcats harassed the Colts defensively and scored with ease. The Bobcats doubled the Colts first quarter point total, 18-9.

The second quarter saw the Colts clobbered further, as the Bobcats held Coahulla four points through almost half of the quarter. By the end of the half, the Colts may have been looking for Dwight Freeney to rush the clock operator, as Gilmer led 42-19 at half time.

The second half was a colossal Colts’ clobbering, despite the “Cats” calling off the dogs and putting the youngsters and back ups in. Gilmer was able to cruise to a 64-50 victory.
