At the city council meeting Monday January 24, council members motioned to approve the renewal of an audit contract with R.L Jennings and Associates. R.L Jennings, an accounting firm out of Rome, GA, will provide the city’s 2011 audit. This means that R.L Jennings will audit all of the city’s 2011 financial and public safety records.
The renewal contract approved by the council includes an agreement between R.L Jennings and the city that no services can exceed more than $12,000, meaning that R.L Jennings cannot bill the city for more than $12,000 for services.
The city chose not to send out any bids for the selection process of this year’s audit. When asked why, City Clerk Sharon Spivey responded, “We like to keep our business locally if we can. More than likely we will send out a bid next year because I do like to make sure we get the best prices”. Spivey also said that a beginning and end date for the audit has not yet been scheduled, although audits normally occur in May.
