With play-off hopes on the line, Colt “Homer” Henderson hit two three run home runs in the 8-6 Bobcats victory over Heritage; however, the win, featuring a great outing on the mound by Shane Dale (AKA Dale “Boy”) and Henderson’s aforementioned six RBI’s was not enough to get the Bobcats into the playoffs. The Bobcats playoff hopes hung on winning by four runs and Heritage losing the next game to Dalton. Tall order but possible. At the end of two, Heritage was up 5-1, and things looked dim for the Bobcats, but things would turn around in the third.

In the bottom of the third Marlen Hensley drew a walk and Forest Bramlett was hit by a pitch. Henderson came to the plate with runners on first and second. The Heritage pitcher probably wishes he had the high hanging curve ball back that he served up. Colt drove the ball over the left field wall to make the score 5-4 in the bottom of the third.

The Bobcats stranded three much need runs in the forth but no one would score again until the bottom of the sixth.

The bottom of the sixth would start with a controversial call on a grounder hit by Nathan Bradley. Gilmer head coach, Kyle Barr, along with many others, felt Bradley had out run the throw to first but the umpire felt different. “Out” was the call. Coach Barr became noticeably upset with the umpire.

After Austin White drew a walk and Tucker Plouffe ripped a single driving that drove White in, Bramlett ripped another single, bringing Henderson to the plate with two on two outs.

Not again! A hanging curve proved deadly for Heritage. Henderson cleared the left field wall for another three run home run, bringing his R.B.I total to 26 for the year.

Now it was an 8-5 Bobcat lead. The Bobcats needed to win by four runs, which made the controversial Bradley out that much more significant. Those were missed runs that the Bobcats desperately needed.

The sixth inning ended along with the hope of the Bobcats making the playoffs. Heritage would add one more run in the seventh before the game ended 8-6.

Shane Dale threw 91 pitches for a complete game; a nice performance by Dale “Boy”. Gilmer will host Murray Friday 4/27, on “Senior Night.” The first pitch is scheduled to commence at 5:30 pm.
