Mr. Jack Edmond Alvis, age 85 of the River Bend Subdivision of Ellijay, GA passed from this life on July 21st, 2012 from his residence.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jasper, a lifelong member of the Gideons and showed honesty in his work as a bookkeeper. Mr. Alvis served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. He was born on September 14th, 1926 in Silver Creek, GA to his late parents, Cleo Edmond and Frances Inez Roberts Alvis. Mr. Alvis is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Alvis and step mother Catherine Dovie Alvis.

Family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Gilmer Pregnancy Center, 220 Sailors Drive, Ellijay, Ga. 30540. The Gideons International, Ellijay Camp, P.O. Box 1704, Ellijay, Ga. 30540, or Georgia Mountain Hospice, 70 Caring Way, P.O. Box 580, Jasper, Georgia, in memory of Jack Alvis.

Survivors include wife of 40 years, Patricia Pool Alvis of the home in Ellijay, GA; sons and daughters-in-law : Jack J. and Judy Alvis of Albany, NY, Gary Lee and Candy Alvis of Bakersfield, CA, Mark and Cindy Alvis of North Aurora, IL. ; step-sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin Montank of SC, Carl and Karen Montank of Evansville, IN., 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sister Roma Alvis White of Bakersfield, CA.; brother Claude Rader Alvis of San Luis Obispo, CA., special friends Bryan and Janet Brumby and family of Ellijay, GA.

A private interment service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday morning, July 24th from the West Hills Cemetery in Dalton, Ga.
