The Sun Shines on St. Jude Horse Show

The rain that soaked most of the state of Georgia on Saturday morning couldn’t slow down the Gilmer County Saddle Club, as they made all the proper adjustments to have their arena ready for the St. Jude Charity Horse Show.

All of the money raised at the show, which featured twenty-seven different classes of horses, will be donated to St. Jude, including the money that the show had originally planned to pay the Saddle Club with for using the arena but was returned as a generous donation at the end of the night.

Along with the $5 entry fee for the fans, the show featured many other ways to raise money for St. Jude, including silent auctions for a variety of gift baskets and donation boxes in order to allow those who didn’t win a chance to still make a difference.

While the night was truly “all for the St. Jude kids”, as the event’s announcer effectively put it, the horses and their riders did their best to keep the crowd entertained throughout the evening. Winners from each class include:

A very memorable moment in the night’s festivities came after Class 27’s blue ribbon winner was announced, as the winner Donald Reece was rewarded with a lifetime membership to the Gilmer County Saddle Club. Mr. Reece has been part of the Gilmer County Saddle Club for over fifty years and has been a big part of its success.

The Gilmer Saddle Club would like to remind everyone that next weekend is the Georgia State Show in Chatsworth, Georgia at the Murray County Saddle Club. The event is set to kick off at 6:00 p.m., and they hope to see many familiar faces—either in the crowd or in the show—there.
