The Gilmer High School golf team (Boys) won against every opponent they faced this week, en route to a 5-0 record. The first two matches were shortened due to darkness, but Gilmer’s light shined bright. The Gilmer High School golf team opened their first week of the season in an undefeated fashion. In three different matches, the Cats faced Sonoraville and Fannin twice, and Towns County once.
The “Cats” left each match with the same number of losses they started the season with: zero. Coming off of a very good year last year, the “Cats” look to improve this season and have a very legitimate shot at doing so.
Head coach Nick Evangelista has has been committed to getting the youth involved in golf, and this has helped incoming freshman to be prepared and ready to contribute. The season has started much better than one could have hoped for though, as the first three weeks of the season were chopped off.
This led to absolutely no practice time before the first match of the year, so the start is a very impressive feat. The “Cats” look to keep the run going next week as they travel to Union County on Tuesday to face the Panthers.
Leading the charge for the Cats was Trevor McClure, Drew Parks, Wheeler Lancey, Callaway Cook, and Zack Elliott.
