Gilmer’s Great Night Says “Good Night” to Lady Knights: Lady “Cats” Rout River Ridge 7-3

The Gilmer Lady Bobcats softball team traveled to Woodstock to take on the Lady Knights, on the strength of two home runs from senior, Caitlin Coleman, and a solo shot from fellow senior, Skyler Banks, the Lady “Cats” clobbered the Lady Knights 7-3 for a road rout.After witnessing the junior varsity squad win 6-5 in extra innings after Casey Crook’s RBI single scored Mackenzie Chambers in the top of the sixth, the fell behind 1-0 in the first inning after an RBI River Ridge standing double. An RBI single in the bottom of the third increased the lead to 2-0.
The top of the fourth saw the Lady “Cats” claws come out. Kaylee “TJ” Deyton lead off with a single, followed by a sac ground out from Coleman that moved Deyton over to second.
After Deyton took third on a passed ball, Banks broke the bank with a two run, game tying, home run. The score would remain tied until the top of the fifth inning. Kristen Marshall scored on a Bailey Charles standing double, to give the visitors a 3-2 lead that lasted until the top of the sixth.
Coleman crushed a leadoff home run that put the Lady Cats up 4-2. Karli Loudermilk added an RBI standing double that scored Erin Barclay and gave Gilmer a 5-2 lead.
Coleman killed all hope of a home team comeback with the aforementioned two run shot in the top of the seventh that put Gilmer up 7-2 going into the last half of the last inning.
River Ridge managed to score one more run, before the game ended.
