Waddell Finishes Freestyle 2-2

Team FYN Sports

Gilmer High School state champion wrestler and newly crowned Cadet All-American, Matthew Waddell has ended his journey in Fargo North Dakota at the Junior Nationals.  After placing eighth at 170 in Greco Roman, Waddell finished the Freestyle competition 2-2.  Waddell competed against 69 other wrestlers in Freestyle.

Waddell ended the first day of Freestyle, 2-1, in need of four more victories to secure a placing; however, the young phenom fell and is headed back to Ellijay in preparation for the upcoming school season.

Waddell’s mother, Lisa, posted this message to and about her son on the Gilmer Wrestling Facebook Page,

“Thanks to all who prayed and supported Matthew this summer. He is out of the freestyle competition with a 2-2 record. He had a great summer and is further down the road toward reaching his goals than he was when he began. He may not know it but he will be taking a break from wrestling when he arrives back to Ellijay.

That being said we are looking forward to another great season pursuing 2 more state titles for Gilmer county. All of these young men work hard, most people don’t have any idea how hard they do work and my hat is off to them and all of our coaches. The families and these wrestlers are beyond blessed to be in Ellijay as BOBCATS.”

Waddell’s placement in the Greco Roman Tournament cementing his Cadet Junior National All-American, the first in GHS history.
