10-22-2013 PRESS RELEASE from the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office:
Sheriff Stacy Nicholson is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) who stole wheels and tires and attempted to steal the entire axle off of two (2) DOT traffic control trailers that were located on Hwy. 52 East. It is believed that the thefts occurred Sunday night, Oct. 20th. The wheels and tires were taken off of both trailers which were located at Hwy. 52 at the Hwy. 515 ramp and Hwy. 52 near the Gilmer and Dawson county line.
A significant amount of work was required of the Sheriff, GSP Blue Ridge Post Commander, and the Speaker of the House David Ralston in order to utilize the DOT trailers in order to attempt to reduce traffic accidents on Hwy. 52 due to the seasonal / festival traffic.
Sheriff Nicholson states,
“I, along with Sgt. Johnson of the Georgia State Patrol, have put a tremendous amount of effort and time into making Hwy. 52 East safer through this Fall. I intend to exhaust every effort to determine who is responsible for stealing from the taxpayers of this State and make an example of them.”
The wheels are new and they are described as black steel. The tires are also new. Any further description will be provided as we obtain it.
Anyone having any information of this incident is asked to contact the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 706-635-4646.
