New Region Alignment Announced for 7-AAAA

Team FYN Sports

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has released its official region alignments for all high school classifications starting in 2014, which features change to the Gilmer Bobcats’ 7-AAAA.The region had already seen Dalton and River Ridge move up to AAAAA (Dalton is in 5-AAAAA; River Ridge is in 7-AAAAA) and Cedartown drop down to 5-AAA, but now the sole addition to the region was announced: Cartersville High School will be in 7-AAAA for at least three years.

Cartersville’s addition leaves 7-AAAA with eight teams: Cartersville, Gilmer, Heritage, Lafayette, Northwest Whitfield, Pickens, Ridgeland, and Southeast Whitfield. The changes that have taken place during this cycle means that this region will no longer have a sub-region, a situation that previously complicated the playoff picture year after year.

It was unclear if 7-AAAA would maintain ten members as it had for the last two seasons; I previously speculated the addition of a few schools that were moving up from AAA, including a couple of Hall County schools. Fortunately, GHSA’s alignment for 7-AAAA looks to be appropriate for all the schools involved, which should make for some very exciting sporting events come 2014.
