This week saw the beginning of the Seamless Summer Program for our community.Volunteers across the county have served the past 2 days to provide free breakfast and lunch to student aged children.

Volunteers at the 1st United Methodist Church across from the Elementary school stated their location alone housed around 50 students on Monday’s lunch hour. “The only issue we had,” stated the volunteers, “was that we had a few behind the school who didn’t realize we were set up at the church.”

The volunteers said as they went over to let the parents know where they were set up, the children ran over to the church for their lunch. They laugh as they recalled only one volunteer was standing with the food as an “army” of children came running up to him.

These students show up on location where volunteers provide hand cleanser to prepare for their meal. Then they receive a meal inclusive of proteins, vegetables, and fruits similar to the lunch they would receive in school.

The location provides seating and shade from the sun as the students eat. As previously reported, these students are also allowed to take their leftovers home. The volunteers also provide a snack dessert such as donuts or similar items that can last for the children to take with them.

This program will continue through the summer until July 24th at these locations.
