Beautiful Boardwalk Begins

A new Boardwalk Project has begun just off the roundabout in Ellijay. If you have been downtown this week, you likely have seen the construction of the Boardwalk Project beginning at River Street. The Downtown Development Authority has started this project in order to provide beautification enhancements for the city.

Larry Robinson of the Authority said the 400 foot long boardwalk is set to extend from River Street down to North Main Street. As it does cover much of the road it is on, they will be changing the name to Church Street Alley, and closing it to traffic except for emergency vehicles and deliveries for the stores.

The Wooden Bear Construction Company is projected to complete the boardwalk Monday, June 8 with the cost, close to $25,000, coming from the Development Authorities current budget.

The stores are also joining into the project, according to Mr. Robinson, with their own decks and items of their choice, such as possible flowers, benches, or tables. Along with them, Mr. Robinson says the Authority will be looking into a beautification project for the boardwalk next to incorporate lighting and plants to enhance the boardwalk.
