BOC Sets Moratorium to Correct Issue

News

With the revocation of a recent license issued to Whitepath Lodge, the Board of Commissioners have approved a Moratorium on licenses for halfway houses and rehab centers.

This Moratorium, which is across the board for halfway houses and rehabilitation centers, is the first step in what is to be a 3 month process to correct an error found within the county ordinances. This process is set to correct these licenses and the ordinance to change from a Permitted to Commercial business license.

This process will include a first reading at the Commissioners next meeting, a public hearing, and a second reading before the Board can finally approve it and move forward with continuing to issue these licenses.

Chairman Paris has said the Moratorium will expire December 31 to allow plenty of time for the process to unfold and for any possible hiccups or extensions that would be required along the way for the correction.

Though this process began with a revoked licenses previously issued, Chairman Paris says,

“It was revoked, and they will be getting there money back.”

Yet, there is no reason that the Lodge could not re-apply to receive the proper license after the expiration of the moratorium.
