This week’s theme is “Furry Friends” February’s story themes are all about the pets, animals, and how we love them. All ages welcome. Story time and LapSit are excellent ways to strengthen your children’s literacy skills, and all stories are always followed by a simple craft you can complete with your child.

Tween Book Club – Prince Caspian
Monday, February 8 @ 5:00 PM
This month’s book is The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis. Read the book then come watch the movie. If you haven’t yet read the book, no worries. Come watch the movie with us anyway. Afterward we will discuss the differences between the book and the movie. Ages 9+. Kids 9 and under with adult supervision please.

My 1st Book Club

My First Book Club “Mercy Watson to the Rescue” by Kate DiCamillo. For children in grades 2-4. Drop by the library before the meeting to pick up your reading packet. Read the book before the meeting and come prepared to discuss the book with other children. Kids 9 and under with adult supervision please.

Lego Club

The Lego Club has a different theme each month. Children can work alone or in teams to make their special creation, which will be displayed in the library until next month’s meeting. All ages, under 9 years of age with an adult please.

Book Binding Clinic

Book lovers who want to bring new life to old books or Bibles will receive free estimates on restoration. Jack Kyle, a retired book binder, will be available to explain how he can restore and rebind your cherished items.

OverDrive & eBooks
Tuesday, February 9 @ 12:00 PM
This will be the first seminar in our upcoming technology seminar series. We will how you how to access eBooks on Overdrive no matter what device you plan to use. Contact GCL for the entire list of upcoming seminars.

Lunch & Learn Knitting
Wednesday, February 10 @ 12:00 PM
Bring your brown bag lunch, needles and yarn to the Gilmer County Library. Already know how to knit, come for the fun! It’s OK if can’t come to all the meetings. If knitting, bring #8 needles and yarn of any color. If crocheting, bring G or H hooks and Peaches & Cream cotton yarn of any color. This is a “drop in when you can” event.

GCGSI Monthly Meeting

Kathi Harper Hill is our speaker and is a local author who has written six books. She will be reading from two of her books and inviting us to discuss them. The two books are Out On a Limb and Where the Rain Begins.

The Friends of the Library Bookshelf

Everyone likes special treats for Valentines and you’ll find new recipes aplenty in the large collection of cookbooks featured in the Bookshelf this week, all at half our usual low prices. This is a true sweetheart deal!

Bookshelf hours are from 10:30-5:00 on weekdays and from noon-2:00 on Saturdays.
