Groundbreaking Ceremony Signifies New Era at Pettit Field
GHS Football, GHS Soccer, GHS Track, Team FYN Sports February 9, 2016Members of the Gilmer County Board of Education, the Gilmer High School staff, Parrish Construction Group and Breaux and Associates officially broke ground on the renovation of Pettit Field at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium yesterday.
Although the windy winter weather kept the public from attending, the 15-minute ceremony still put a lighthearted touch on what will be a major overhaul of Pettit Field. Dr. Shanna Wilkes, Jim Fallon, Sr. (representing Parrish Construction Group) and Doug Breaux (representing Breaux and Associates) each spoke briefly before the groundbreaking, with all three centering their speeches around the optimism and excitement about the renovation.
The improvements to be made will include the installation of an artificial turf playing surface for the football and soccer teams, a new track for the track and field team and new fencing around the stadium. The project is expected to be completed by July.
