Fannin Bests Gilmer in Summer Soccer Matches
GHS Soccer, Gilmer High School, Team FYN Sports June 8, 2016The Gilmer High School soccer contingent traveled to Blue Ridge Monday, for a pair of friendly scrimmages at Fannin County High School.
With 30-minute halves and shortened fields in place, the Lady Rebels bested the Lady Cats 3-2 and the Rebels defeated the Bobcats 4-1.
Fannin girls triumph
In a nine-on-nine scrimmage, own goals doomed the Lady Cats. A stalemate was broken with 8:57 left in the first half, when an attempt to defend a corner kick resulted in the ball sneaking across the goal line to give Fannin a 1-0 advantage.
Gilmer replied with 4:29 left in the first half, as Sabrina Zagarola punched the ball into the net. However, Fannin again benefited from a Lady Cats own goal with 34 seconds left on the clock, resulting in a 2-1 Lady Rebels halftime advantage.
Lady Cat Elsa Francisco helped tie the match again late in the second half, punting the ball in from 20 yards out with 3:45 left in the match. However, Lady Rebel Ella Senoff had other plans for the outcome, as she got a shot across the goal line 58 seconds later to put Fannin ahead 3-2.
Gilmer failed to reply again before the contest ended, awarding the Lady Rebels with the victory.
Fannin goalkeeper Sydney Jones recorded five first-half saves, while Annalee Cioffi had four in the second half. Tori Jack stayed in goal for Gilmer throughout the entire affair, recording nine total saves.
Rebels defeat Bobcats
Bryan Carranza gave the Rebels a 2-0 first half advantage, scoring goals at the 29-minute and 10-minute marks. The Bobcats cut the gap down to 2-1 with five minutes left in the half, after Coady Cobb connected with a shot into the goal. Brandon Carranza then widened the Fannin advantage back to two with less than a minute left in the first half.
The Rebels added another goal for good measure in the second half, when Paul Tipton used a Gavin Mervine corner kick to punch the ball into the net and extend the Fannin lead to 4-1. Gilmer was unable to generate a response, giving the Rebels the victory.
Austin Bennett picked up six saves for Fannin at goalkeeper. Meanwhile, three Bobcats manned the goal for Gilmer. Cobb recorded three saves, Nick Chmiel had five and Javier Landaverde nabbed three.
Gilmer and Fannin will clash again in Blue Ridge next Thursday at 6 p.m.

JV Bobcats Finish Year by Slaying Dragons
GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports April 22, 2016The Gilmer High School Bobcats officially concluded the 2016 soccer calendar, with a JV Bobcats road match against the Pickens Dragons yesterday.
Pickens failed to generate any offense throughout the affair and GHS took advantage, turning a 2-0 halftime advantage into a 5-0 shutout.
Raul Garcia and Chris Byrd scored two goals each for the Bobcats, while Arturo Bernabe added a goal of his own.
Speaking on the match, head Bobcats coach Simon Phipps said, “The boys played well from the start, although we lacked the control I would have liked, considering the amount of possession we had. The second half was better played, with the ball on the ground a lot more, passed and moved around well. I took 25 boys and all of them got some playing time. I’m very pleased with the last match, but also sad as it was Coach (Kees) DeVente’s last match as well.”
Gilmer Soccer Garners Late Season Victories
GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports April 18, 2016Both Gilmer High School soccer teams looking to end the season on a high note.
As a road-heavy season draws to a close this week, both the Lady Cats and Bobcats have enjoyed some recent success in both non-region and region play.
On March 29, Gilmer traveled to Morris Innovative in Dalton. Against the upstart school, the Lady Cats garnered a 9-0 victory, while the Bobcats picked up a 4-0 win.
In the girls match, Autumn Durham secured a hat trick in the score column. Kate Schiesser punched in two goals, with Elsa Francisco, Chayce Durden, Candy Bautista and Grace Henderson adding one goal each.
The boys match saw Rodrigo Casas score two goals, while Arutro Bernabe and Toni Murillo contributed one goal each.
Following spring break, GHS resumed play last Tuesday, in a non-region match at Fannin. The Lady Cats fell 3-0, while the Bobcats dropped their match to the Rebels 3-1. Caleb Tinajero scored the only Gilmer goal of the night.
More non-region action awaited Gilmer last Thursday at Christian Heritage in Dalton. Both the Lady Cats and Bobcats secured more success against Whitfield County schools, as the Lady Cats won 5-1 and the Bobcats garnered a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Lions.
The girls match started off on the wrong foot for Christian Heritage, as the Lady Lions scored an own goal to put Gilmer ahead 1-0 with 27:10 left in the first half. Francisco put the Lady Cats ahead 2-0 with a goal at the 23:20 mark, while Rosio Landaverde added a shot into the net at the 15:25 mark. Francisco then promptly gave GHS a 4-0 lead that they held until halftime by adding her second goal of the night with 13:40 left on the clock.
Christian Heritage finally got on the scoreboard with a goal 90 seconds into the second half. Bautista waited until 1:47 remained in the game to add her name to the scoreline, giving Gilmer a 5-1 win.
Gilmer starting goalkeeper Briana McClure recorded seven saves in the first half, while Tylea Hernandez nabbed nine saves in the second half.
In the boys match, Bernabe got the lone first half goal with a punch across the goal line with 15:20 left. The second half saw the Lions tie the match 1-1, on a goal with 35:06 left on the clock. After a bevy of Gilmer shots failed to get past the Christian Heritage goalkeeper, Jon Bremm finally snuck a shot into the net with 7:15 left in regulation to put the Bobcats back out front 2-1. The Lions were unable to respond in kind, giving Gilmer the victory.
Gilmer goalkeeper Ben Jones only needed two saves in the first half, while Dillan Ledford secured three in the second half.
GHS concluded the week with a region match last Friday night at Lafayette. The Lady Cats secured their first region win of the year, with a 3-1 win. Meanwhile, the Bobcats picked up a 1-0 victory.
The girls match saw the Lady Ramblers get ahead with an early goal, before Sabrina Zagarola broke free and shot the ball into the net to tie the match 1-1. Durham gave the Lady Cats the lead in the second half on a free kick, before Grace Henderson added some insurance that secured the 3-1 victory.
Parker Benitez timed a Lafayette deflection just right in the second half of the boys match, to put the Bobcats out front 1-0. The Ramblers failed to answer the goal, giving Gilmer the 1-0 win.
Following the matches, the Lady Cats have a 5-11 record (1-5 in region play), while the Bobcats now sit at 6-9-1 (2-4 in region play).
Gilmer finishes the season tomorrow, as Ridgeland comes to Clear Creek Middle School for region action on senior night. The Lady Cats get underway at 5 p.m., with senior night to follow before the Bobcats take the field.

Lady Cats, Bobcats Split Season Finale Against Ridgeland
GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports April 20, 2016The varsity Gilmer High School soccer teams saw differing outcomes in their season finale last night, a home region match against Ridgeland.
The Lady Cats offense exploded for an 8-2 victory, while the Bobcats dropped a hard-fought 2-1 affair.
Lady Cats
In the girls match, both Rosio Landaverde and Autumn Durham garnered three goals each. Chayce Durden and Kate Schiesser contributed one goal each in the second half to give the Gilmer girls a high note to end a challenging season on.
“This season brought a lot of adversity,” said GHS Lady Cats head coach April Nicholson. “We ended up with a season loaded down with road games. We had some injuries that plagued us during some key points in the season and we had a lot of bad luck. But overall, the girls stayed headstrong and resilient and we ended the season on a really good note. We went 4-1 after coming back from spring break and I’ll take those numbers all day long. We played Ridgeland pretty closely for the first quarter of the game and it made for an exciting but stressful start. The girls really turned it up, though. They wanted this win and I am very proud of what they did. It is our estimation that this group of senior girls is the most winning group on record- 21 career wins. They were freshman my first year coaching, so it has been a great joy and a humble honor to watch them grow and change over four years.”
The big finish the Lady Cats manufactured at the end of the year left the Gilmer girls with a 6-9 (2-5 in region play) record for the season.
Bobcats
Ridgeland secured the only first half goal of the boys match, with 18:55 remaining before the break. Jon Bremm tied the game 1-1 with the same amount of time left in the second half, before a Panther response four minutes later put GHS behind 2-1. The Bobcats failed to find the inside of the goal once more before the end of regulation, giving Ridgeland the victory.
Speaking on the varsity finale, head Bobcats coach Simon Phipps said, “It was a close game. The boys started very slowly and conceded a goal in the first half. They came out and played better in the second half and really well in the last 15 minutes. But by then it was too late. Chasing a game is never easy and Ridgeland defended their lead well.”
Phipps also added his sentiments on the season as a whole. “I had two goals at the start of the year for the boys: qualify for the state playoffs and win the Pickens tournament,” Phipps said. “We got close with the first one. The games this year in region play were a lot closer than last year and we are definitely moving in the right direction. As for the second, we beat Pickens at Pickens in the tournament and things seldom get better than that, there was no outright winner of the tournament as Pickens, Fannin and us all won one game each. We have come a long way this year. This season has been a really difficult for the boys and the coaches. Not having a home field and not having a consistent place to practice has made things hard. Playing most of the games on the road did not make things easy. The boys got very travel-tired, especially when we had three or four games in a week. But I have been really pleased with the progress we have made this year. There is a real soccer buzz around the high school, as lots of boys have been really interested in what is going on and they want to play every game.”
The varsity Bobcats finish the season with a 6-8-1 (2-5 in region play) record.
The JV Bobcats will combat with Pickens one more time to conclude the season, heading to Jasper Middle School tomorrow for a 5 p.m. kickoff. The JV Bobcats currently sit at 3-3. The JV Lady Cats season has already ended, with the JV girls boasting a 2-2 record over the 2016 campaign.

GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports March 29, 2016The Gilmer High School soccer team waited until late last week to see action, as GHS traveled to East Hall Friday and then participated in the 2016 North Georgia Soccer Classic at Jasper Middle School against Pickens and Fannin.
At East Hall, the Lady Cats fell 4-2, while the Bobcats fell to the 2015 AAA state runner-up Vikings 8-1. Elsa Francisco and Josie Sheahan scored the two Lady Cats, while Jon Bremm added the lone Bobcats goal in the boys match.

In a round-robin tournament that featured 30-minute halves, the Lady Cats were shut out 2-0 by the Dragonettes and lost 3-1 on penalty kicks to the Lady Rebels. Meanwhile, the Bobcats garnered a 2-1 victory over Pickens, before falling 2-0 to the Rebels.
Kelsie Wise got the Dragonettes on the scoreboard in the tournament opener, scoring a goal with 20:03 left in the first half. Hannah Duncan added a goal on a penalty kick with 5:41 left before halftime. The early offense was all Pickens needed to secure the victory, as the Dragonettes downed the Lady Cats 2-0.
Briana McClure had nine saves at goalkeeper for Gilmer, while Lizzie Houghwout secured four for Pickens.
The Bobcats pounced early against the Dragons, as Toni Murillo secured a Gilmer goal with 21:14 left in the first half. Dragon Corbin Johnson tied the match at 1-1 with a goal at 16:51, before Bremm pulled GHS back out front with a shot into the net as 8:12 remained in the affair.
Neither team managed to sneak a shot across the goal line in the second half, leaving Gilmer to claim the victory.
Adam Leicht nabbed 12 saves for the Dragons, while Johnson stepped in at goalkeeper late in the match and recorded two saves. Christian Hernandez had three saves for Gilmer.
The Lady Cats/Lady Rebels contest in a 0-0 deadlock, forcing a round of penalty kicks to determine the winner. Makenzie McClure, Ella Senoff and Gaby Mares helped propel Fannin past a McClure goal to give the Lady Rebels a 3-1 victory.
McClure had nine saves for Gilmer, while Fannin had seven.
Adam Ingram provided all the offense necessary for the Rebels to defeat the Bobcats, scoring a goal with 7:04 left in the first half and 24:04 remaining in the second half to give Fannin a 2-0 victory.
Hernandez secured 11 saves against Fannin, while Dylan Frank recorded 13 saves for the Rebels.

Gilmer Soccer Falls to Hurricanes, Dragons
GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports March 21, 2016A busy week of Gilmer High School soccer action concluded last Friday at Jasper Middle School, with a region rivalry match against Pickens.
The Lady Cats fell to the Dragonettes, 2-0. A first half goal from Alex LeMieux and a second half goal from Kelsie Wise provided Pickens with enough of a lead to pick up a hard-fought victory.
Starting Gilmer goalkeeper Briana McClure recorded 18 saves for the Lady Cats, while Tylea Hernandez had one. Lizzie Houghwout nabbed 13 for the Dragonettes.
The boys match also went to Pickens, 1-0. Corbin Johnson scored the only goal of the affair with 6:24 remaining before halftime.
Dillan Ledford had 14 saves for the Bobcats, while fellow Cat Christian Hernandez recorded three. Adam Leicht had 15.
Gilmer started region play Tuesday at Cartersville. The Lady Cats fell 4-0, while the Bobcats dropped a 3-0 match.
“It goes without saying that Cartersville dominates in virtually every sport, so we knew this was going to be a tough match,” said head Lady Cats coach April Nicholson. “The long drive and heat, although a nice change of pace from the snow, were two other factors we had to keep in mind. Sophomore Grace Henderson had one of the best games of her high school career. She was pivotal in keeping the ball in the middle third of the field. Our defense did a great job of protecting Bri McClure, our keeper. Our girls were physical and aggressive, and to go from an 0-10 upset to two legitimately earned goals shows a huge improvement on our side.”
“We started a bit slow and conceded an early goal, which shook us a bit,” head Bobcats coach Simon Phipps said about the boys match against the Hurricanes. “I was very happy with the boys they never gave up and fought really hard.”
JV Bobcats win twice
The JV squads also saw two matches last week, against Fannin and Pickens.
In the Fannin affair, the JV Lady Cats dropped a 3-0 contest to the Lady Rebels.
“We came out pretty strong and played a very physical game,” Nicholson said. “We really enjoyed playing Fannin because we are typically an evenly matched team. I think some of our younger girls got a lot of much needed time on the field.”
The JV Bobcats went on to down the Rebels, 6-3. Fernando Ramirez punched in three goals, while Coady Cobb, Raul Garcia and Elias Velasquez supplemented the outcome with one each.
“It was nice to return the favor,” Phipps boasted. “They came here at the start of the season, first game and won 4-2, so it was time for payback. I was really happy with the way the boys played, especially in the second half. They created lots of chances and passed the ball around well.”
At home against Pickens Thursday, the JV Lady Cats fell 2-1 to the Dragonettes. Elsa Francisco scored the lone Gilmer goal in the match.
Meanwhile, the JV Bobcats fanned the Dragons 2-0, with Garcia and Cobb scoring for Gilmer.
After the hectic week, the varsity Lady Cats are now 2-7 (0-5 in region play), while the varsity Bobcats sit at 2-6-1 (1-4 in region play). The JV Bobcats now boast a 3-3 mark, while the JV Lady Cats sit at 2-2.

JV Bobcats Pounce on Panthers; Varsity Ties Eagles
GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports March 11, 2016The Gilmer High School soccer program has had a relatively quiet week, save for two boys matches Tuesday and yesterday.
The JV Bobcats picked up its first win of the season on the road at Union, as they downed the Panthers 6-2. Chris Byrd scored two goals for Gilmer, with Arturo Bernabe, Raul Garcia, Carlos Gonzalez and Israel Bautista contributing one each to the final tally.
“A very solid performance, topped off by a stunning 35-yard goal from Israel Bautista, who blasted the ball through the hands of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net,” said Bobcats head coach Simon Phipps. “Chris Byrd played really well and deserved both of his goals. Historically, Union have always been a really tough team to play at both (the) JV and Varsity (levels), so I was really happy with the result and more importantly, how many different boys scored or took shots.”
Yesterday, the varsity Cats traveled to Cartersville to face the Excel Christian Academy Eagles. Although Parker Benitez scored two goals and Byrd added one, Excel matched Gilmer goal-for-goal and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
The games leave the JV Bobcats at 1-3, while the varsity squad is 2-4-2.
The action will pick up tremendously next week. GHS will send its JV to Fannin Monday for a match. The varsity will have region action Tuesday at Cartersville, before the JV welcomes Pickens Thursday at Clear Creek Middle School and the varsity returns the favor Friday as they travel to Pickens for a region match.

Gilmer Caps Off Packed Week at North Murray
GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports March 7, 2016A busy week for the Gilmer High School soccer contingent concluded last Friday, with a JV match at North Murray High School.
The JV Lady Cats picked up a 3-0 victory, while the Bobcats fell 7-0 to the Mountaineers.
Lady Cats
Tori Jack wasted little time getting Gilmer on the scoreboard against North Murray, scoring a goal from 30 yards out seven minutes into the game. Jack again supplied a goal for the Lady Cats in the second half, on a penalty kick with 29:18 left in the match.
Haley Farmer added to the fun six minutes later with a goal that came during a packed battle for the ball inside the box. The Lady Mountaineers failed to respond to the deficit, giving GHS the shutout victory.
“What a great game,” said Lady Cats head coach April Nicholson. “JV games inherently have less pressure to them than the varsity games because they don’t affect region standings, but we take them very seriously. Our girls came out read to play and to win, and they didn’t disappoint. Our dribbling, passing, and defense were top notch.”
Goalkeeper Tylea Hernandez saved nine shots for Gilmer.
The varsity Lady Cats also saw action last week, dropping two region matches to both Southeast Whitfield and Northwest Whitfield by the same margin, 2-0.
Nicholson also commented on the varsity matches, saying, “Southeast is one of our region competitors who consistently has a very good program. We came out strong and played them really hard. Our girls never gave up; they played hard until the final buzzer, and I’m incredibly proud of the resiliency and tenacity they showed.”
She continued about the Northwest contest, “Our girls came out really strong against Northwest and gave them a good show. We were incredibly aggressive, and kept them from scoring the entire second half. Right now, we’re on track to break a school record for number of goals given up, as we’re averaging less than two per game. These girls are making good things happen and I’m very proud of them.”
Mountaineers shut down Bobcats
Both boys teams suffered through struggles last week, with the JV finding itself unable to slow down the Mountaineers last Friday. Kevin Garcia got the scoring attack underway early, punching the ball into the net with 24:31 left in the first half. Brian Loarca added one with 14:03 remaining before halftime, before Raul Romero widened the North Murray lead to 3-0 with a goal less than two minutes later.
The break in the action failed to slow down the Mountaineers. Diego Munguia scored with 24:56 left in the game, before a Ivan Munguia goal four minutes later extended the NMHS lead to 5-0. Garcia picked up his second goal of the game with 13:30 remaining on the clock, before Romero added his second as well with 3:12 left in regulation off a Jesus Pedraza corner kick, to help North Murray pick up a 7-0 victory.
“We’re really excited,” said North Murray JV coach Matt Chambers after the win. “I think the thing I’m most proud of is a complete game. That shows a lot of maturity for the younger players. That means a lot to me, in terms of who’s going to contribute to the varsity in the coming years. We’re never selfish with the ball. We have quick 1-2 touches. A coach can’t ask for much more than that.”
Seth Allen recorded three saves for the JV Mountaineers, while Ben Jones had 12 for Gilmer.
The varsity Bobcats also struggled in region play last week, falling 4-0 to Southeast Whitfield and 5-0 to Northwest Whitfield.
Speaking on the Southeast match, Bobcats head coach Simon Phipps said, “We fought really hard and never gave up. The boys have nothing to be ashamed of. They should hold their heads high. At times we made a very good side look ordinary.”
The varsity Lady Cats currently sit at 2-5 for the season (0-3 in region play), while the varsity Bobcats are 2-4-1 (1-2 in region play) thus far. The JV Lady Cats are 2-0, while the JV Bobcats sit at 0-3.
The JV Mountaineers improved to 3-0 for the season with their victory Friday night, while the JV Lady Mountaineers fell to 2-1 for the year after the loss to Gilmer.

Gilmer, Fannin Soccer Add Installment to 515 Rivalry
GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports March 1, 2016Although the two schools are no longer in the same region, Gilmer High School traveled to Fannin County High School last Friday to meet in a soccer match for Highway 515 bragging rights.
While the action on the field was intense, the final outcomes proved that the rivalry is as hot as ever, in spite of the cold weather in Blue Ridge.
The Lady Rebels picked up a 1-0 victory over the Lady Cats, while the Bobcats and Rebels finished the night in a 1-1 deadlock.
Girls
The lone goal of the girls contest came just six and a half minutes into the match, as Maddie Crain punched the ball across the goal line for Fannin. Although the Lady Cats took several shots throughout the duration of the contest, they were unable to find the goal and dropped the match.
“It was a great win for us,” said head Lady Rebels coach Chris Thigpen. “We’ve struggled the last couple of games and haven’t been able to put any points on the board. So, to get that one goal was great. The defense was solid, as always. If we get a little more production up front, I think we can fare well in the region.”
Briana McClure had 19 saves for Gilmer, while Savannah Vanderhoven recorded two for Fannin.
Boys
The Bobcats and Rebels waited until the second half of play to secure their goals. Fannin struck first, as Gavin Mervine scored off a corner kick from Brandon Carranza with 26:40 left in the contest.
Gilmer replied with 13:12 remaining in the match, as Rodrigo Casas found the back of the net to tie the game. Neither side was able to garner another goal during regulation and with the match being a non-region affair, the contest ended in a 1-1 deadlock.
Dillan Ledford had five saves for the Bobcats, while Christian Hernandez finished the game with three. Dylan Frank finished the match with 10 saves for Fannin.
Bobcats best Indians
One day prior to the Fannin contest, Gilmer traveled to Murray County to take on the Indians. The Lady Cats picked up a 5-0 victory, after goals from Autumn Durham (one of which was off an assist from a Tori Jack corner kick), Kate Schiesser, Josie Sheahan and Candy Bautista.
“Coach Fountain and I were extremely impressed with the girl’s performance,” said Lady Cats head coach April Nicholson. “Their passing game was solid, maybe the best they’ve played in four years. From the beginning, we went out aggressive and resolute. Their determination paid off.”
Meanwhile, the Bobcats garnered a 1-0 victory over the Indians. John Bremm scored the lone goal of the contest in the second half, to give Gilmer the win.
Bobcats Down Generals; Lady Cats Drop Close Match
GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports February 22, 2016The first Gilmer High School varsity home soccer action took place last Thursday night at Clear Creek Middle School, against Region 7-4A adversary Heritage.
By the conclusion of the evening, the Lady Cats had dropped a 2-0 affair, while the Bobcats had picked up their first win of the season over the Generals, 3-1.
Bobcats
Gilmer came out with a strong defense in the first half, leaving goaltenders Dillan Ledford and Christian Hernandez with just six saves between them in the first 40 minutes.
After several missed shots at the goal, Rodrigo Casas finally found the inside of the net with 24:23 left in the half to put the Cats on top 1-0. He then missed another shot just two minutes later, before adding another point at the 18-minute mark.
Heritage finally responded with its only goal of the contest, as 5:42 remained in the half. Ervin Lopez added a third goal for the Bobcats with 24:49 left in the second half, off a header from Roberto Carlos. Heritage failed to make up the deficit and gave GHS its first overall and region win of the season.
“We had a definite plan coming in,” said Bobcats head coach Simon Phipps after the win. “We learned a lot from our first two games. Sonoraville was a very tough game; North Murray was a very fast-paced game. So the plan coming in tonight was to play a bit more defensive for the back five and across the middle and use Rodrigo’s (Casas) speed up top, to play the ball down the sides and over the top and try to rush them. We had a lot of possession, but we’ve still got a lot of youth on the team. We’re still learning and the more we play, get used to the game, the speed of the game and how it works, we’ll improve.”
Starting Gilmer goalkeeper Ledford had 12 saves, while Hernandez had two saves.
Lady Cats
Gilmer was unable to generate any offense, but kept Heritage limited after two goals in the first half. The Lady Generals found the net just over a minute and a half into the game, before adding another goal with 17:42 left before halftime.
Autumn Durham and Sabrina Zagarola took turns taking shots at the goal throughout the contest, but were unable to sneak a shot past the Heritage goalkeeper. The Lady Cats held Heritage scoreless in the second half, but were unable to take advantage and dropped the contest 2-0.
“Heritage is a good team, who usually competes for a state spot every year,” said head Lady Cats coach April Nicholson. “Our girls made two mistakes early in the first half that cost us goals. We held them scoreless for over half of the game, and I am incredibly proud of that. Each year we have played them, we have improved the score. Overall, the girls played a great game, and we are exceedingly proud of their effort and resilience.”
Gilmer goalkeeper Briana McClure finished the game with 17 saves.
Generals win JV contest
One day after the varsity match, the JV Bobcats traveled to Heritage and dropped a 1-0 contest to the Generals.
“It was a very close game,” Phipps said. “We had a lot of position and I feel that we should have at least finished the game in a tie.”
