Why:   You Deserve the same level of due process as the citizens of Cobb, Gwinnett, Fannin, and Pickens County. Did you know that every county with a population of 96,000 or more is required to elect a licensed attorney as probate judge? These probate judges handle the same type of cases that Gilmer County’s probate judge is required to hear. Both Fannin and Pickens County have now elected an attorney to serve as their probate judge as well, leaving Gilmer County as the sole County in our judicial circuit without a licensed attorney serving as the probate judge. The attorneys regularly appearing in probate court to represent their clients are required to receive extensive training in the law and pass a rigorous licensing exam just to make an argument before the court, should the Judge making decisions on those arguments be any less qualified?  Josh believes that the people of Gilmer County deserve the same level of due process as someone from Cobb, Gwinnett, Fannin, and Pickens County and that is why he is running for the office of Probate Judge.

While compassion and common sense are important, a judge with the authority to deprive you of your freedom, property, and own decisions shouldn’t be learning the law on the job. The Probate Judge has the authority to send you to jail, take away your right to vote, commit you to a medical facility against your will, turn over control of your medical and financial affairs to someone else, and declare your will invalid. Josh possesses not only a full understanding of the law, but the common sense and compassion necessary to apply it appropriately.

Josh is the only candidate to have experience in a federal prosecutor’s office, judge’s chamber, and as a practicing attorney. Josh interned for both Judge Roger Bradley and Chief Judge Brenda Weaver, completed a highly coveted internship with the United States Attorney’s Office, and has practiced law as a private attorney in Gilmer County. During his time in private practice Josh has practiced extensively in probate court, trying complex will disputes, representing clients applying for guardianship and conservatorship of their loved ones, probating wills, administering estates, and representing clients in numerous criminal proceedings. Josh is the most qualified candidate for Probate Judge of Gilmer County and he will work tirelessly to ensure a fair and efficient process for everyone.
