Mr. Scruggs was an original founder of the Peachtree Rod and Gun Club, and a member of the Board of Governors of Capital City Club, Atlanta, Georgia. He was a falconer, a member of the North American Falconers Association, West Hartford, Connecticut, and an original founder of the Georgia Game Hawks Club.

Mr. Scruggs was also a member of the North American Bird Banding Association and The Lepidopterists Society. As a youngster he was Georgia State Junior Fly Fishing champion for distance and accuracy. He helped organize and participated in the first stocking of trout in the tailwaters of the Chattahoochee River below Lake Lanier’s Buford Dam.

Mr. Scruggs enjoyed quail and dove hunting and has spent many hours and days pursuing them with his bird dogs. In 1983 he authored a book entitled “The Bird Dog”. The book was illustrated by his friend John Ridley of Decatur, Georgia.

Edward was born January 21, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Aileen Harris Scruggs and Edward DeLeon Scruggs. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Chastain Scruggs and sons Edward DeLeon Scruggs III, John Stewart Scruggs, and William Harris Scruggs; also step sons Ronnie Chastain, Carroll Chastain, and Jeff Chastain, and numerous grandchildren. He attended Marist School and worked at Lucien and Stewart Harris Insurance Agency.

He served in the Army Air Corps, and he was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday March 26th at 11am from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Rubin Smith and Rev. Mark Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the Yukon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday March 25th from 6pm until 9pm at the funeral home.
