Gilmer, Fannin Golf Seasons End at Region

The Gilmer High School golf team hosted Fannin to conclude the 2016 season April 12, before the season concluded for both squads in region tournaments this week.

The teams split the season finale, as the Bobcats toppled the Rebels 190-200, while the Lady Rebels edged out a 166-170 win over the Lady Cats.

Dylan Stewart was the lowest shooter for the Bobcats against the Rebels, finishing the day with a 44. Colin Pflueger shot a 45, while Joshua Dobbs completed his nine holes with a 48. Both Tyler Queen, Kanyon Smith and J.T. Bosley all rounded out the scoring by each shooting a 49.

For the Rebels, Michael Arp led the way with a 47. Ben Bruce recorded a 48, while Austin Panter shot a 51. Both Alex Chastain and Hunter Crowder shot a 54, wtih Shane Stepp rounding out the scoring with a 56.

In the girls match, Aubree Pack was the lowest scorer for the Lady Rebels by recording a 51. Bailey Whitener finished with a 57, while Presley Porter had a 58 and Samantha Henson shot a 62.

McKenzie Chambers was the lowest Lady Cats shooter against Fannin, recording a 49. Macie Chastain shot a 55, while Natalie Watkins recorded a 58 and Mallory Kiser finished her day with a 59.

The Region 7-4A boys match was held Monday at Lafayette. Gilmer finished sixth at the 18-hole affair, shooting a combined 354.

Dobbs led Gilmer by shooting an 83. Stewart had an 89, while both Bosley and Pflueger recorded a 91. Smith shot a 95, while Queen rounded out the scoring pack by finishing his day with a 96.

The Region 7-4A girls match was held yesterday at Indian Trace, where the Lady Cats also claimed a sixth-place finish.

Meanwhile, the Region 7-3A tournament was held at Franklin County. The Rebels finished fifth, shooting a 398. Meanwhile, the Lady Rebels placed sixth, by shooting a 418.

Panter led the Fannin boys by shooting a 93. Alex Chastain recorded a 95, while Arp finished his day with a 104. Bruce had a 106, while Stepp rounded out the scoring Rebels by shooting a 109.

The Lady Rebels were led by Pack, who shot a 128. Whitener shot a 140, while Porter finished with a 150.
