JV Bobcats Finish Year by Slaying Dragons

GHS Soccer, Team FYN Sports

The Gilmer High School Bobcats officially concluded the 2016 soccer calendar, with a JV Bobcats road match against the Pickens Dragons yesterday.

Pickens failed to generate any offense throughout the affair and GHS took advantage, turning a 2-0 halftime advantage into a 5-0 shutout.

Raul Garcia and Chris Byrd scored two goals each for the Bobcats, while Arturo Bernabe added a goal of his own.

Speaking on the match, head Bobcats coach Simon Phipps said, “The boys played well from the start, although we lacked the control I would have liked, considering the amount of possession we had. The second half was better played, with the ball on the ground a lot more, passed and moved around well. I took 25 boys and all of them got some playing time. I’m very pleased with the last match, but also sad as it was Coach (Kees) DeVente’s last match as well.”

The win helped the JV Bobcats finish the year with a 4-3 record.
