Obituaries

Dr. Wilbur D. Schneider, age 99, of Ellijay, died Monday, October 31, 2016.

Dr.Schneider was born December 29, 1916 in Clinton, Missouri, to the late Chester C. and Katherine Ewert Schneider, German immigrants, who became medical missionaries in South America. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army, serving as a medic in WWII. He was a family doctor until he was 84 years old, frequently rendering his services for free. In this way, he served as a missionary in his own community. Dr. Schneider was Citizen of the Year in 2000 and a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include: Wife; Sue Coffey Schneider, sons and daughters-in-law; Don and Mickie Schneider, Ellijay, Douglas and June Schneider, Kingston, daughter and son-in-law; Carol and Randy Teague, Jasper, 7 grandchildren 9 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday November 3, 2016 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Pastor James Peel officiating. Interment will be in the Ellijay Seventh–Day Adventist cemetery with graveside rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 3pm until 9pm at the funeral home.

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Josephine Edwards Christian School, 12472 Hwy 515,N Ellijay, GA, 30536 in memory of Dr. Schneider.
