Gilmer Schools has cancelled its afternoon activities today, March 1st, as last night’s storms are expected to continue or worsen.

According to the information sent by Superintendent Dr. Shanna Wilkes, the Gilmer County Charter School System is conferring with emergency services as the day continues stating, “The safety of our students and staff is always our primary concern and for that reason at this time all afternoon activities for Gilmer County Schools are cancelled today.”

Although canceling the afternoon activities, schools will continue their regular scheduled day and release at normal times. However, Dr. Shanna Wilkes did reiterate that they would continue to monitor with emergency services and update that decision if necessary.
