BOE Preps for New School Year

ELLIJAY, GA – The Gilmer County Board of Education is readying itself for the coming school year with approvals for the strategic plan, Provision II, and the Millage Rate.

The Strategic Plan approved for School Year 2018 (SY18) is still following the overall 5-year-plan set until 2021. Including the School Board’s general Goal Areas, the plan specifies objectives for the achieving the greater goals.The general themes still run through the plan including increasing CCRPI (College and Career Readiness Performance Index) Scores, reducing students’ missed days, and the inclusion of the Master Plan for facilities, technology, school safety, transportation, and an ESPLOST campaign among others.

Financially, the CTAE Plan saw the year’s information on grants and allocations for the program. The BOE also approved the Financial Statement, completing 11 months of the year with the end of May, and approvals to Advertise the Millage Rate at 16.12, lower than the proposed rollback rate of 16.24. Preparing for the Nutrition side of the school year, the BOE has approved a new item called Provision II, Through this, Gilmer Schools will provide breakfast for all students in the county at no charge. However, parents must remember that though all students will be approved for free breakfasts, Free and Reduced Meal Applications must still be completed as they will be used for lunches.

Operating on a four year cycle, the BOE reports it has the option to stop the program at any time. Additionally, each year the Board is set to review and evaluate profit loss to determine the feasibility of continuing the program.
