Gilmer On Top In Three Innings

Team FYN Sports

Coming off of a game where the Lady Cats opened up an explosion of runs late in the game,  the Griffin Bears took the field against Gilmer.  In this game the Purple and White reigned supreme over the Green and Gold of Griffin High School.

The Bears jumped out to a quick lead scoring 4 runs in their half of the first inning.  Not being caught back on their heels, the Lady Cats picked up where they left off in the previous game.  Answering the 4 put up against them and added 2 more to bring the first inning score to 6-4.  The first inning onslaught of runs came on 2 walks a single(Mallory Kiser), double(Emily Dale), and a home run(Carly Chadwick).  The Bears also hit a Gilmer batter and committed one error.   Griffin fought back adding 1 run in the second to bring the game to a 6-5 score.  Much like the first inning, the Gilmer Lady Cats had another big explosion of runs.  Adding 8 more runs on 8 hits and an error , had the game close to out of reach for the opposing team. Coming up big were Hannah Bennett had 2 hits(single and Triple), Carly Chadwick with 2 hits(2 Singles) in the inning as well.  The Lady Cats batted around in the second inning.

Going all three innings, Isabella Chastain in the circle for Gilmer, threw 77 pitches with 48 being strikes.  Chastain allowed 8 runs(6 earned) 1 homerun, 4 strikeouts and 3 walks in the 14-8 victory over the Griffin Bears.  7 of the 10 batters in the line up for Gilmer had hits in the game with 3 of those having a multiple hit day.  Leading the way at the plate for Gilmer were Carly Chadwick(3-3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored), Hannah Bennett- 2 for 2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored), Mallory Kiser-(2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored) in the 3 inning victory.

The Lady Cats will return to the region high school schedule on Tuesday as they travel to Northwest Whitfield.  Gilmer Lady Cats are looking to return the favor of a late inning 1 run loss to the Bruins earlier in the season. Game time is 5:55 PM.
