ELLIJAY, Ga. – The Gilmer County Board of Education announced during their Monday, May 20, 2019 work session that school meal prices are to remain the same next year due to positive cash flow in January, whereas last year prices had to go up due to high expenditures.

This keeps Pre-K through eight grade meal prices at $2.15, ninth through 12th grade meal prices at $2.30, and adult meal prices at $3.75.

The board noted an increase in students who participated in school lunches from August to March, with Ellijay Primary going from 59% to 74%, Ellijay Elementary 65% to 75%, Mountain View Elementary 65% to 73%, Gilmer Middle School 69% to 74%, Clear Creek Middle School 57% to 58%, and Gilmer High School 49% to 51%.

The board also announced that they will be offering free Summer meals through their “Seamless Summer Program” for school age children and younger via various volunteers throughout multiple locations in the county.

This will take place Monday through Friday starting Monday, June 3, 2019 until Friday, July 19, 2019, excluding Monday, July 1, 2019 through Friday, July 5, 2019.

Each Wednesday there will be literacy activities for children and free books will be distributed to children participating in the Summer meals.

The Georgia Mountains Health Services will be providing free dental screenings and dental supplies to the kids participating in the program.
