Macon County, GA- Over the weekend, high school wrestlers from all over the state of Georgia gathered at the Macon Centreplex in Macon, Georgia to compete in the Georgia High School Association Traditional State Wrestling championships. As always Gilmer had a slew of wrestlers that advanced to the state meet, as they bussed down 7 men and 5 women to their respective State Finals.
Before we get into the individual results, here’s what Head Men’s Coach Joshua Ghobadpoor had to say about his guys:
“STATE CHAMPIONS!!! We never lost faith, we never gave up, and we did it together as a TEAM and a FAMILY. What an unbelievable accomplishment for this team, these wrestlers, and these coaches. This is for all the ones we love and the support they give us no matter what happens. I personally would like to dedicate it to my boys Reacher and Rocky. Now 19x State Wrestling Champions your Gilmer Bobcats!”
While the men’s team won their 19th state championship, the women’s team did an outstanding job coming in tied for second as they had 4 of their 5 wrestlers standing on the podium at the end of the tournament, including State Champion Taylor Schiesser!
