Camper at Coosawattee River Resort Cleared

FYN just spoke to Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson. Details from today’s standoff will be released tomorrow. Sheriff Nicholson states that the matter has been resolved and stresses that there is no danger in Coosawattee.

According to the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, the residence in Coosawattee has been cleared by deputies from Gilmer Co. and Cherokee Co. Sheriff’s offices. No one was discovered inside the residence; however, Sheriff Nicholson states “we absolutely do not feel that there is any cause for public concern, and the investigation will continue.”

Earlier this morning an unidentified individual broke into the camper at the Cossawattee River Resort threatening to burn the camper down. Following the owner of the camper’s exit from the camper, the individual remained in the camper, prompting a response from the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office. The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, then worked to handle the situation appropriately.
