The East Ellijay City Police, and their Chief Larry Callahan, have completed upgrades to their vehicles mounting new dash-mounted DELL Rugged Computers, a brand specifically made for Patrol Cars according to Callahan.

Callahan told FYN the previous computers they had were close to seven or eight years old. Deciding it was time to replace them, East Ellijay spent roughly $15,000 to put in the eight new computers and their dash mounts, the truck in the fleet was not installed.

Two officers FYN had an opportunity to speak with praised the new systems and mounts saying they were faster, sturdier, and better built to endure the constant rattle and wear received while in the vehicles.

The new computers still tie into the city’s system via Wi-Fi connection as the vehicles return to City Hall. Their they upload all the paperwork, citations, reports, and basically everything the officers have completed requiring less paper and affording more security, says Callahan, as there is no longer hard copies laying around or having to be physically transported elsewhere. The state can even access the system to view files.

Further, the new systems mounts and brackets still offer a quick release for officers to utilize the computers outside of the vehicle as a normal laptop whether they are finishing paperwork inside of city hall or filling out reports on location of their responses.

The East Ellijay police have already completed installation and you can see these systems in use by officers in the city.
