Gilmer Lady Cats softball (12-3, 10-0) traveled to Parkview this weekend to play in a tournament. Gilmer faced both Collins Hill and Parkview High School’s and unfortunate were unable to come home with a win.
An important thing to remember, is that the Lady Cats were playing against 7A teams in both Parkview and Collins Hill, presenting a huge challenge when going up against a school that much bigger than yours.
As always, Isabella Chastain was on the mound for the Lady Cats for both games.
Chastain lasted four and a third innings against Collins Hill, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out five. Against Parkview, she allowed four hits and eight runs over two and a third innings while striking out four.
Collins Hill senior pitcher Emily Whitehead was on the mound and was throwing some nasty stuff, striking out 11 Lady Cats while allowing four hits and one run over seven innings.
Gilmer’s four hits in the game against Collins Hill came off the bats of Jasmine Staley and Jocelyn Birko, who both had two hits a piece. The Lady Cats did not commit a single error in the field and Maddie Rosas-Wright was a perfect eight for eight in the field.
When it came to the game against Parkiview, the Lady Cats just struggled to put up runs and had a tough time defensively containing Parkview. The only time Gilmer was able to put a woman on base was when Jacie Bennett singled in the second inning. Parkview jumped on the scoreboard early in the first inning, scoring three runs on two doubles. They tacked on 5 runs in the third and six runs in the fourth, never looking back.
