Cats Rumble With Rebels in Day Two of ETC Tournament

The Gilmer Lady Cats and Bobcats faced off with the Fannin Lady Rebels and Rebels in the second day of games in the ETC Tipoff Tournament on Monday.
Gilmer’s teams were moderately successful against Fannin, as the Lady Cats fought hard but ultimately came up short and the Bobcats used a strong fourth quarter effort to come out on top.The opening game between these two schools pitted the Lady Cats against a very talented Lady Rebels’ squad. The first quarter of the game showed off both team’s defenses, leading to no points for either team until there was only 3:15 left in the opening period of play and a total of 9 points between both teams once it was all said and done.

Down 6-3 after the first quarter, the Lady Cats fought hard to cut into Fannin’s lead in the second quarter, but unfortunately struggles shooting led to Gilmer trailing 14-8 at halftime.

Things didn’t get any better for the Lady Cats in the third quarter thanks to Fannin putting up ten points to their five points, leaving Fannin down 24-13 going into the final quarter.

The Lady Cats saved their best for last, putting up more points in the fourth than they did in the previous three quarters, but it just wasn’t enough to top Gilmer on this night. The Lady Cats would win the game by the final score of 38-27.

Brittany Lowman led the Lady Cats in scoring and rebounding with seven points and seven rebounds, respectively. She also had four blocks in the game.

Four Lady Cats players—Lowman, Jenna Parks, Bailey Charles, and Britton Farlow—ended the game with at least five points in the contest.

Next up in the evening’s games was the meeting between the Fannin Rebels and the Gilmer Bobcats, a game that was back-and-fourth throughout, made apparent by the teams being tied 11-11 after the opening quarter of play.

The second quarter would prove important for the Bobcats, as they outscored the Rebels 15-11 to hand the team a lead that they would refuse to give back.

Fannin kept it close in the third quarter, but a dominant fourth quarter in which the Bobcats only gave up six points sealed the team for Gilmer. The Bobcats would win the game by the score of 50-40.

Joe Bob Charles had a game-high twenty points along with nine rebounds in the victory. Following close behind was Corey Waters, who recorded ten points with four rebounds.

The Bobcats got a real scare in this game when Connor Webber appeared to have twisted his ankle in the second quarter. His status of Tuesday’s game in unknown.

The Lady Cats and Bobcats hit the court again on Tuesday to play Pickens in the last day of the ETC Tipoff Tournament. The Lady Cats will face off with the Dragonettes at 6:00 p.m. with the boys’ game following its conclusion.
