Clear Creek Middle School Assistant Principal Doris Sanford told FYN today that there was no fire following a fire scare on Tuesday.FYN first learned of the incident from a concerned citizen on Tuesday, January 22nd. According to Sanford, though, there was no fire. As such, no reports were made.

“The heating system was turned up a little bit more this week and it was burning out dust in the duct pipes,”

Sanford said.

Sanford went on to say that the students weren’t allowed to enter the building Tuesday morning because the school’s fire alarm system was triggered, ringing through out the school. The students were then bused to Gilmer Middle School. Sanford said, though, the students had no sooner arrived at Gilmer Middle, when they were bused back to Clear Creek.

“They started back here by 7:50 and by then the Fire Department had (given) us the all-clear,”

Sanford said.

But, heating systems will continue to get a workout as the cold weather continues through the night and into tomorrow. As of last night, Gilmer, Fannin, and Pickens Counties were placed under a Winter Storm Warning with the possibility of ice accumulation. The Winter Storm Warning is in effect until late Friday night.

The Pickens, Gilmer, and Fannin County School Systems have already closed for tomorrow, Friday, January 25th, due to forecasted accumulation.
