Dr. Webb Extends Stay on New Contract

News

With a new contract in place, it seems we shall continue to see Dr. Charles Webb around our Board of Education just a little longer.

The Board has approved a new contract with Dr. Webb, but not as a Interim Superintendent. Rather, according to his contract, he shall remain for the next 11 months as a Central Office Staff Senior Administrator consulting directly to and with the Superintendent, Dr. Shanna Wilkes.

Offering strategic guidance with relation to facilitation, oversight, ESPLOST Construction Projects, research, design, and planning, Dr. Webb is set to remain these 11 months total on payment of $7,000 a month with the last month, June, at $6,300.

His contract also will include a reimbursement plan for mileage as he travels from his home in Bulloch County. This is scheduled as he is estimated to be traveling to join us once a month for 1 or 2 weeks at a time and the reimbursement will follow the current mileage plan.

I am so thankful that our BOE has decided to retain Dr. Webb’s services for the next year, this will take us through the first year of our new Superintendent’s contract. Dr. Webb will be a wonderful addition to our management team! He will be able to oversee projects, that could require his skills and he will be present to help our Superintendent and the BOE avoid some of the pitfalls that they have faced in the past! CUDO’s to the BOE for making this happen, and a big thank you to both our Superintendent and Dr. Webb!

The following post on Facebook was written by me as a reaction to FetchYour News-Gilmer’s story about Dr. Webb’s new contract and salary. I was contacted by a BOE member who said they hadn’t read my post or your story, but we had gotten it wrong. I assured the BOE member, if I had posted any incorrect information, I would immediately correct my post. But I only heard why the board thought this was a bargain-basement deal. Dr. Webb sounds like a very knowledgeable person, but what message does this send to the citizens of Gilmer County?

    Ok folks,
I have just hear the most immoral and outrageous information. If it is true, the citizens of Gilmer County should take up arms. I am referring to what I read about Dr.Charles Webb, interim superintendent of Gilmer County Schools, who was hired until the new superintendent, Dr. Shanna Wilkes, started work and Dr. Webb was to work along side Dr. Wilkes for a few additional months. Ok, I get this part; however, this next part is what is so unbelievable. Dr. Webb now has a new contract for 11 months as Central Office Senior Administrator consulting with Superintendent, Dr. Wilkes. He will be paid $7,000 a month plus travel expenses from his home in Bulloch County. He will only be working 1 or 2 weeks per month!
No offense to Dr. Wilkes, but if she needs this much help, why was she the best person for the job? Do the math folks! There is her salary, benefits, travel, etc. and now this money being spent on Dr. Webb. Also, Dr. Webb is retired educator and worked for the consulting firm the BOE members hired to do the superintendent search, so it is not like he needs the money to pay his bills.
This is a slap in the face to every active Gilmer County School system employee, former employees, students, parents and tax payers of Gilmer County.
Let’s do more than just read this, sit back and say, “What a shame”! Contact BOE Members, Dr.Webb, Dr. Wilkes and anyone who cares about the education of children in this county and demand an explanation and possible reversal of this action.
