The 2016 Summer Reading Program (SRP) begins 5/20/2016 and concludes 7/29/2016. SRP is for all age groups not just children. GCL will host fun, exciting events and programs for all ages throughout this summer. Check our Facebook page for details.

Join us for this week’s story “Camping Under the Stars” All ages welcome. Both Story Time and LapSit are excellent ways to strengthen your children’s literacy skills, and all stories are always followed by a simple craft you can complete with your child.

Tween Advisory Board
Monday, May 9 @ 5:00 PM
We have started a TWEEN Advisory Board (grades 3rd-6th) to help us know what Tween kids are interested in. We will brainstorm ideas about future programming and other activities you would like to do at your library. Kids 9 and under with adult supervision please
My 1st Book Club

Tuesday, May 10 @ 4:00 PM
My First Book Club “Dora Fantasmagory” by Abby Hanlon. For children in grades 2-4. Drop by the library before the meeting to pick up your reading packet. Read the book before the meeting and come prepared to discuss the book with other children. Kids 9 and under with adult supervision please.

Lego Club
Saturday, May 14 @ 2:00 PM
Legos are super fun and the Lego Club has a different theme each month. Just drop in and join in the fun. Children can work alone or in teams to make their special creation, which will be displayed in the library until next month’s meeting. All ages, under 9 years of age with an adult please.

Airbnb: Airbnb (as in “Air Bed and Breakfast”) is a service that connects property owners looking to rent out their space to travelers who are looking for a place to stay on a vacation or other kind of trip. This one-hour workshop will cover the basics of Airbnb including setting up an arirbnb.com account.

Lunch & Learn Knitting
Wednesday, May 11 @ 12:00 PM
Bring your brown bag lunch, needles and yarn to the Gilmer County Library. Already know how to knit, come for the fun! Its OK if can’t come to all the meetings. If knitting, bring #8 needles and yarn of any color. If crocheting, bring G or H hooks and Peaches & Cream cotton yarn of any color. This is a “drop in when you can” event.

The Friends of the Library Bookshelf

If you’re interested in the history of our region, Native American history, or the history of the West you’ll want to see this week’s special collection at the Bookshelf. It’s a potpourri of quaint books, history, and even a few cookbooks.
FOGL memberships start at only $15.00 and contribute to buying print books & eBooks for GCL. As a member you will enjoy the monthly newsletter, special event announcements, and more.
