Friday, August 10th, the Gilmer Bobcats’ football team hosted a scrimmage versus the Murphy (NC) Bulldogs. The football season officially kicks off on August 31st against the Rebels of Fannin County High School.
The scrimmage’s rules were a bit unusual for the fans in the stands, as each team was given possession of the ball for a series of ten plays, after which the team could attempt a field goal.

Once the field goal was attempted, the ball would change possession. Scoring of the game was also different for the scrimmage, as the score was not recorded in the first, second, or fourth quarter of play; however, the score would be kept in the third quarter of play.

Rain and lightning plagued the players and fans on Friday night, and after a lengthy weather delay the game was postponed until the following morning at 10:00 a.m.
