ELLIJAY, Ga. – Days before Memorial Day, Gilmer County will be host to the AVTT (American Veteren’s Traveling Tribute) Traveling Vietnam Wall.

From May 16 to May 20 of 2018, the Traveling Wall will be hosted at the Ellijay Lion’s Club Fairgrounds in Ellijay. However, the wall will not be arriving alone as reports indicate a plan of motorcycle riders are expected to escort the wall into Ellijay and onto the grounds as it arrives.

According to their website, AVTT is a multi-division nationally recognized, veteran owned and operated small business. The wall has visited over 300 locations over the last eight years.

And yes, the event is open to the public for all those interested to stop in and visit the wall to view. The event is being sponsored by the American Legion Post 82 and the Ellijay Lion’s Club.

At 80 percent scale, AVTT’s website states it is the largest traveling Vietnam Wall replica.

Where or how can we find out more about the Ellijay Lions Club Riders escorting the wall into Ellijay. What will be the route, dates and times. There is no information on the AVTT website about arriving in this area according to their calendar. There is no answer at the Lions Club and the Legion by phone. We would like to observe the bikers and want to know if other riders can join in on the ride. I am asking on behalf of a group of 16 Veterans in the Walker Co. area.
