Gilmer Track Off to Impressive Start; Seniors Recognized
GHS Track, Team FYN Sports March 15, 2016The Gilmer High School track team has sprinted to an impressive beginning to the 2016 season.
GHS started the season at the Southeast Whitfield Invitational March 5. The Lady Cats took fourth place overall, with 76 team points. The Bobcats finished fifth at the meet, with 55 points.
Karla Cantrell won the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 50.56. She also captured second place in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 16.87 and third in the triple jump, with a leap of 30′ 7″.
Rowe Fowler finished third in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 55.08. She also took fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 18.60.
Lauren Bentley won the high jump competition, with a height of 5′ 1″. Kelsey Cook placed fifth in the high jump event, with a height of 4′ 2″.
Raven Sparks placed fifth in the discus throw, with a toss of 82′ 11 1/2″. She also took sixth place in the shot put competition, recording a length of 31′ 6 3/4″.
Grace Pleasant took fifth place for the Lady Cats in the 1,600-meter race, with a time of 6:08.
Olivia Thompson placed seventh in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:51.68. She also took seventh in the triple jump, with a length of 27′ 2″.
Katie Kiker finished sixth in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:46.72. Carolina Teague took eighth place in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:08.
Carson Masenthin won the 300-meter hurdles event, with a time of 43.19. The 110-meter hurdles allowed Masenthin to take fifth place, with a time of 16.48. He also took eighth place in the high jump, reaching a height of 5′ 4″.
Luke Stolz finished second in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 10:37. Carlos Cruz took third place in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 10:47. Cruz also garnered eighth place in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:15.98.
Alex Stolz placed third in the 1,600-meter run, with a time of 4:50.08. He also took fourth in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:13.96.
In the 200-meter dash, Griffin Cagle placed fifth with a time of 24.04. Josh Teague finished seventh in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 49.13, while Austin Masenthin took eighth place in the 400-meter sprint, with a time of 57.41.
Gilmer then hosted Fannin, Dawson and Southeast Whitfield for a quad meet last Thursday at Clear Creek Middle School.
The Lady Cats won with 103 team points, while the Bobcats garnered 100.5 team points to win the boys competition.
GHS will travel back to Southeast Whitfield today, for a tri-meet with both the Raiders and the Cass Colonels. The meet gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
