2014 Gilmer High School Football Banquet

The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team closed the book on the 2013 season with the end of the year banquet, honoring seniors, and the accomplishments of the 2013, including a 9-3 season with a trip to the second round of the playoffs.The banquet speaker, Del Land, regaled the guests with a tale of tragedy, loss, and recovery. Land spoke about being prepared for any moment, as he told of the night he lost his father, and eventually part of his leg, due to being struck by a drunk driver, while in the midst of an argument.

He pointed out to the audience that it is important to “be prepared,” that “bad things happen to good people” and that people should “never miss saying the important things.”

Afterward head coach, Wesley Tankersley, introduced the senior class who presented “Tank” with a token of appreciation, and extended the same courtesy to the senior cheerleaders.

Tankersley presented the individual awards before having each position coach talk about the seniors from his group.
