Gudger, Dorothy Nell Garrett. (85/86?) October 27, 1932/1933 (depending on who you believe) –July 28, 2019. She was born in the Locher District near Richland Springs in San Saba County, Texas to Juanita Hart Garrett.  She was the shortest of seven children. She grew up and attended schools in Richland Springs, Buchanan Dam, and Llano, Texas.  She was heavily involved in anything the school offered including band, basketball, tennis (She became Texas State Champion), Homecoming Sweetheart, and countless clubs and other activities.  She attended the University of Houston until she met a young lieutenant from Georgia, Don Gudger.  The young couple moved to Ellijay where they raised five kids.  She was very active in her church, Sunday school-teacher, Bible school coordinator, Cub-Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout leader, and part time substitute teacher.  She attended more sporting events than you can “shake a stick at.” In the bleachers she was famous for her powerful whistle. She was elected to the Gilmer Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.   She moved to Lawrenceville in 1971 where she continued to raise her family keeping kids, looking after and feeding coaches.  Dot was most known for her devotion to the Georgia Bulldawgs and Atlanta Braves.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Juanita, her husband Coach Don Gudger, her son John, daughter Dorothy Lyn, and brothers Jack, Billy, Bobby, Sammy, and sister Rae.

She is survived by sons Joe (Tammy), Coach Pat (Felicia), and daughters Rae (Jim), Lisa (Doug) and sister Jo Kaats.  Dot was blessed with 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests you feed a stranger, get to know your neighbor, say a prayer for the Georgia Bulldawgs.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM, Friday, August 3, 2019 in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home., the family will receive friends 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Friday before the service at the funeral home. The burial will be held at Mountaintown Baptist Church Cemetery, 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 4, 2019 and the family will receive friends 12:00 to 1:00 PM, at the Mountaintown Baptist Church.
