Mrs. Barbara Ellen (Hanvey) Amberson, age 85 of Ellijay, GA passed on Friday December 6th, 2019.

Mrs. Amberson was born on May 9th, 1934 in Piedmont, AL to her late parents, William Arthur and Maude Octavia (Sloan) Hanvey. She is preceded in death by her husband William Evans Amberson.

A memorial service is being planned and will be held at a later date in Piedmont, AL.

Survivors include her daughter and daughter in law, Sherrie Ellen Faughender and Cathy Roth both of Ellijay, GA; granddaughter, Amanda Ellen Hutcheson and David Daniel Leone both of Ellijay, GA; great-granddaughter, Briyana Alexis Hutcheson; brother, William Arthur Hanvey, Jr. of Piedmont, AL; niece and nephew, Amber Mcfry and Kevin Hanvey.

William Douglas Mabry: Obituary

Mr. William Douglas Mabry, age 90 of Woodstock, GA passed on Saturday November 30th, 2019 at Autumn Leaves Assisted Living. Mr. Mabry was born on April 17th, 1929 to his late parents Eric William and Winifred (Morris) Mabry in Buford, GA. He was a graduate of Marietta High School and the Georgia Institute of Technology earning a degree in Industrial Engineering. Doug retired with Lockheed Martin and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hickory Flat.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday December 7th, 2019 from the Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, GA with family and friends officiating.

Doug is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joy (Pope) Mabry of Woodstock, daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda M. Gibbs and her husband Don of Florida, Linda M. LaGrow and her husband Bill of Flowery Branch, son and daughter-in-law, Rick D. Mabry and his wife Tina of Ellijay, step-son and daughter-in-law, David Pope and his wife Cindy of Pennsylvania, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, brother, Dan Mabry of Ellijay.

Viola Corbin Parks: Obituary

Mrs. Viola Corbin Parks, age 92 of Ellijay, GA passed on Thursday December 5th, 2019.

Mrs. Parks was born on February 14th, 1927 in Ellijay, GA to her late parents Franklin Elsberry and Florence Rosette (Wheeler) Corbin. Viola was a member of the Flat Branch Baptist Church and was a retiree of Robert Shaw. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dortis Parks, daughter, Debbie Parks Jones, son, Wayne Buford Parks brothers, N.J. Corbin, Paul Corbin and Kenneth Corbin.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday December 11th, 2019 from the Flat Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Lamar Benson, Rev. Franklin Harper, and Rev. Tony Withrow officiating. Music and vocals will be by Lowell Davis, Martha Harper, and Harold Sanford. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Mitchell Jones, Justin Burney, John Waldron, Josh Waldron, Daniel Parks, and James Parks all serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy (Ray) Weissinger of Ellijay, GA; grandchildren, Rhonda Burney, Mitchell Jones, John Waldron, Josh Waldron, Daniel Parks, James Parks, Eli Harrison, and Sean Green; 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Corbin Land of McCaysville, GA, Noleeta Corbin Chastain of Cherry Log, GA, Vernon Corbin of Centre, AL; sisters-in-law, Mary Corbin of Ellijay, GA and Betty Corbin of Dalton, GA; 17 nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Tuesday, December 10th at the Logan Funeral Home.

Loyd “Papa” Mulkey: Obituary

Mr. Loyd “Papa” Mulkey age 83 of Ellijay died Wednesday December 4, 2019.

Mr. Mulkey was born October 11, 1936, in Pickens County, the son of the late Grady and Lee Hicks Mulkey. He was retired from Gold-Kist and was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include; wife; Shirley Coffey Mulkey, children and spouses; Billy Joe and Ann Mulkey, Lorie and Danny Perry all of Ellijay, sister and brother-in-law: Lana and Johnny Henson, Ellijay, 2 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 pm from the Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Crump, Brother David Robertson and Rev. Tim Davenport officiating. Interment will be in the Yukon cemetery.

The family will meet with friends Thursday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Eric Paul Dotson, Sr: Obituary

Mr. Eric Paul Dotson, Sr. age 75 of Woodstock, GA formerly of Ellijay, passed on Tuesday November 19th, 2019 at his residence.

Mr. Dotson was born on July 4th, 1944 in Ellijay, GA to his late parents, C. Tommy and Jewel Miller Dotson. He was a graduate of Gilmer High School, a member and Elder of the Woodstock Church of Christ and served his country honorably in the United States Army. Paul was also a retiree of Atlantic Steel Company after 31 years of employment.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday November 21st, 2019 from the Woodstock Church of Christ with Min. Matt Amos and Min. Bryan Collins officiating. Military graveside service will be on Friday November 22nd at 2:30pm in the Macedonia Church of Christ Cemetery with Min. David Mullins and the North Georgia Honor Guard officiating.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Deborah (Debbie) Holloway Dotson of the home in Woodstock, GA; children and in-laws, Amy (Kerry) Shannon of Acworth, GA, Eric (Christine) Dotson, Jr. of Canton, GA, Jody (Melisa) Dotson of Canton, GA; grandchildren, Kelly D. Lindsey, Mattie D. Amos, Cody Dotson, Cameron Ivanyisky, Miranda Dotson, Madison Ivanyisky-Schemp, Lauren Finale, Haley Shannon, Wesley Shannon; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gladys D. Spivey and Pauline D. Price both of Ellijay, GA, David (JoAnn) Dotson of Dalton, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made to the Georgia AGAPE at 3094 Mercer University Dr. Ste. #200 Atlanta, GA 30341 in memory of Mr. Dotson.

Gerald Alan Hamblin: Obituary

Mr. Gerald Alan Hamblin age 66 of Ellijay GA died November 19, 2019.

Mr. Hamblin was born July 21, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Henry Hamblin and Donna Davenport Hamblin. He is retired from the automotive industry, he was a service advisor for Bill Holt for many years. Mr. Hamblin also served our country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. His favorite hobby in life was playing Golf, he was an avid member of the White Path Golf Course. He is in preceded in death his parents Henry and Donna Hamblin.

Survivors include: Wife, Mamie Hamblin, Ellijay; Brother and Sister-in-law, Kevin and Annette Hamblin, Blissfield, MI; Sister, Shelly Hamblin, Walland,TN; several nieces also survive.

Betty Pauline Watson: Obituary

Mrs. Betty Pauline Watson age 86 of Ellijay, GA passed away Wednesday October 30, 2019.

Mrs. Watson was born July 25, 1933 in Forest Park, GA to the late Arville Anderson Bramlett and Louise Lillian Edwards Bramlett. She worked for Dekalb Medical Center as a registered nurse and was a member of the Pisgah Church of Christ. Mrs. Watson is preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Connie Lee Watson.

Survivors Include: husband, James Watson Jr., of the home; sons and daughters in-law, Jim and Marilyn Watson, of Clarkesville, GA, Rick and René Watson, of Alpharetta, GA; daughters and sons in-law, Denise and Bob Templeton, of Rocky Mount, NC and Caryl and William Boone Butler, of Snellville, GA; sisters, Helen Dalton, Amelia Ponder, Dottie Moss and Peggy Bramlett; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; special friends Sherry Marks, Keith and Joene Rueckert also survive.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 2nd at 11am from the Pisgah Church of Christ with Minister Jeremy Green  and Minister René Watson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday November 1st from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brenda Kay Smith, age 76, of Woodstock, formerly of Ellijay, died Saturday December 7, 2019.

Mrs. Smith was born April 27, 1943 in Madison, West VA,  the daughter of the late Simeon Dolin and  Vivian Callison Dolin.  She was a graduate of Scott High School and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; Gary Smith, son, Gregory Smith and sibling Virginia Harless.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law; Jennifer and Leon Davenport, son; Gary Smith, grandchildren; Ashley Davenport, Kaylee Davenport, Carrie Smith and Aimee Smith, great-grandchildren; Conner McKay, Grayson McKay, Beau Vicznesky, Charleigh Vicznesky, sisters; Jean Fulton, Anne Roberts, Betty Hogan, Dottie States.

Ms. Joyce Fredia Anderson, age 68 of Ellijay, GA passed on Sunday November 18th, 2019 at the Parkside Nursing Home of Ellijay.

Ms. Anderson was born on December 26th, 1950 in Ellijay, GA to her late parents, Horace W. and Stella Davenport Parks. Joyce was of the Baptist faith and was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Catherine Skates, Benalee Wright, JoAnn Abercrombie, Glenda Queen, and brothers, J.D. Parks and Jack Parks.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday November 21st, 2019 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Arnold officiating, music and vocals will be by Irene Wofford. Interment will follow in the Calvary Way Baptist Church Cemetery with Melvin Davis, Brandon Davis, Jamie Whitaker, and Rick Goodwin all serving as pallbearers.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Jeff and Sharon Anderson of Ellijay, GA; granddaughter, Lexie Marie Anderson of Ellijay, GA; sisters, Oleeta Parks Hughes of Old Fort, Tn and Alene Parks Whitaker of Chatsworth, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

George Randy Meeks: Obituary

Mr. George Randy Meeks, age 70 of Buford, formerly of Ellijay, GA passed on Tuesday, October 29th, 2019 at Piedmont Atlanta.

Mr. Meeks was born on May 24th, 1949 in Gainesville, GA to his late parents, Leonard B. and Virgie Oshields Meeks. George was a graduate of Gilmer High School, class of 1969 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam war. He was of the Baptist faith and was also a member of the American Legion and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday November 5th, 2019 from the Logan Funeral Home chapel with Min. Butch Jones officiating. Military honors will follow in the Logan Funeral Home pavilion with rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with Mark Chitwood, Robert Meeks, Jeremy Meeks, Dewayne Green, James Jones, Austin Lummus, and Jeremiah Tatum all serving as pallbearers.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristin Meeks of Buford, GA; grandchildren, James Lewis Jones, Jeremiah George Tatum, and Kayleigh Tatum; sister, Faye Jean Olsin of Gainesville, GA; brother, Bobby Meeks of Ellijay, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ms. Mary Patterson Davis, age 74 passed on Friday, December 6th, 2019 in Jasper, GA. She was born February 8th, 1945 in Blue Ridge, GA to her late parents Lake F. Patterson and Ruby Juanita Ryce Patterson. Ms. Davis graduated Fannin High School, Class of 1963. She was employed as a team manager at Walmart.

Mrs. Shirley F. Long, age 81, of Ellijay, died Saturday, December 14, 2019.

Mrs. Long was born, June 8, 1938, in Gilmer County, the daughter of the late Freeman and Elzie Chastain Long. She was a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dee Long, son, Chris Long, daughter, Jennifer Long and brother, Leon Long.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 2:00 pm from the Yukon Cemetery with Rev. Billy Cantrell officiating.

Miss Deaver was born November 23, 1957, in Fulton County. She was a member of the Heatherwood Baptist Church in Newnan, Ga.

Mr. Edward “Eddie” Sanford age 66 of Ellijay died Tuesday December 10, 2019.

Mr. Sanford was born July 7, 1953 in Gilmer County the son of the late Homer and Dorothy Goble Sanford. He worked in construction.

Survivors include; companion; Kelly Grace, son, Heath Sanford, Ellijay, grandson; Nicholas Sanford, brother; Teddy Wayne Sanford, Ellijay, sister; Kathy.

At Mr. Sanford’s request he was cremated.

Mr. Bobby Eugene Watts, age 83, of Canton, GA died Saturday,November 23, 2019.

Mr. Watts was born, March 25, 1936, in Gilmer County, the son of the late Franklin Lee and Lena Schular Watts. He was retired from the U.S. Army.

Survivors include; wife; Mary Smith Watts, daughter; Barbara Howard, Dawsonville, son; Robert Lee Watts, Canton, 2 grandchildren; Amber and Brandon Watts,

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Howard officiating.  Interment will be in the Riverhill Baptist Church cemetery.
