As the playoffs for football in the state of Georgia wind down, The individual regions select their All-Region Teams. This season, 13 GHS varsity football players were recognized on either the 1st Team, 2nd Team, or Honorable Mention.

The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team held its annual end of the year banquet to honor seniors and superlatives. The 2015 senior class, consisted of two members, Jamie Lopez and Will Gudger, who were members of the second consecutive senior class to win seven out the possible eight state championships in their careers. The 2014-15 Bobcats finished the season with a 44-7 record, 10 State place winners, four State Champions and two team championships, sweeping the Duals and Traditional Tournaments. The banquet concluded with awards being doled out and head coach, Sam Snider, being honored for his 500 plus wins and 14th and 15th State Championships, by his son, assistant coach, Josh Snider. Gilmer High School sophomore wrestler, Levi Seabolt, winner of the 2015 AAAA State Title at the 285lbs weight class, recently became the first ever Bobcat to win a National Championship. Seabolt competed in the National High School Coaches Association Nationals, winning the national championship for sophomores in his weight class. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team recently completed a sweep of the State Duals Tournament in route to 14th State Championship. The “Cats” clobbered the competition winning by a combined 151 points in the tournament for an average margin of victory of 38. The Finals featured an Area 7-AAAA Duals Finals rematch, as Gilmer again faced Northwest Whitfield, bashing the Bruins 52-13. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team hosted the 2015 Area 7-AAAA Duals Tournament. The Bobcats the defending AAAA Duals and Traditional Champions, looked to defend the Area Tournament Championship as well as secure a place in the State Duals Tournament. The top two teams from each Area attend the State Tournament. Gilmer successfully navigated the tournament unscathed, defending the Area Championship with a 69-11 Finals win over Northwest Whitfield. The win was the 499th of head coach, Sam Snider’s, career and cemented a number one seed at the State Tournament. The Bobcats also secured the number one overall seed in AAAA. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team recently competed in an individual tournament at Archer High School. The tournament featured 39 teams with eight defending state championship teams, including the hosting Tigers who like the Bobcats swept both the Duals and Traditional championships in AAAAAA as Gilmer did in AAAA. The Bobcats placed fourth overall with five place winners. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team traveled to region rival Pickens High School Dragons. Both teams entered the game with identical one loss Region 7-AAAA and overall records, with Gilmer owning a five game winning streak. The streak came to a close as the Bobcats fell 42-19. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team hosted the Northwest Whitfield Bruins in the third game of Region 7-AAAA play. Both teams entered the game 1-1 in the region, the home team “Cats” clinched the clutch victory, with a 33-30 win, secured by a late Garrett Ridgon touchdown catch. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team can claim 12 “Cats” going to the State Traditional Tournament, which decides the state champions for each weight class. The “Cats” took 13 wrestlers to the Sectionals Tournament, which decides participation and seeding in the State Tournament. The top eight place winners at Sectionals move on to the State Tournament. The “Cats” had 12 wrestlers make the top eight, and one ninth place finish, which is the first alternate if an injury happens. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team traveled to Cass High School to take part in the Area 8-AAAA Traditional Tournament, the first step in making the State Traditional Tournament, which decided the state champion for each individual weight class. The Bobcats won the tournament with 276.5 points, and more importantly will take 12 wrestlers to the Sectionals Tournament, with a chance to move on to the State Traditional Tournament, where GHS will be looking for a its 13th wrestling state championship. The Gimer High School Bobcats wrestling team caught fire at the Burnt Mountain Classic, held at the home of the Dragons of Pickens High School. Gilmer took first place with 284.5 points, North Forsyth finished second with 187.5. The “Cats” clobbered the competition with 13, out of a possible 14 weight classes, wrestlers placing, and nine of them finishing first. Out of the 13 place winners, 12 won the last match of the day. The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team secured its 12th state title, winning the AAAA State Duals Tournament with a breathtaking 31-30 win over the Cass Colonels. It was the second time in as many weeks that the “Cats” and Colonels clashed, the Bobcats beat Cass 36-18 in the Area Duals Finals. The incredibly close win came after the two teams tied, 30-30, after all final match tally. Gilmer was awarded the Dual and subsequently the State Title due to a Cass wrestler elbowing Matthew Waddell during the 170lbs match. (more…)

The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team took part in the “Friday Night Fights” duals tournament at Union, going undefeated for a first place finish. The Bobcats beat: Rabun County 59-13, Fannin County 77-3, Hayesville 75-6, and White County in the finals 55-21. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team, fresh off a second place finish in the prestigious Lake Norman Duals tournament, hosted the first home duals meet of the season, going 3-0 in the process. The Bobcats pummeled the Panthers of Union County 84-0, before blasting the Bruins of Northwest Whitfield 52-21, then thrashed the Trojans of North Hall 50-24. (more…)
