Gilmer High School’s quarteback, Chris James, signed a football scholarship to play at Valdosta State. James was 1st Team All Region 7-AAAA and led to the team to a third place finish in the region and a state playoff birth his as a senior. (more…)
Scratching and clawing, the Gilmer High School Bobcats football team brought the regular season down to 22 seconds before securing a AAAA playoff spot. The Gilmer Bobcats won friday night against the Heritage Generals 27-20. A playoff spot was on the line for both teams and the Generals did not go easy without a fight. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team traveled to region rival Pickens High School Dragons. Both teams entered the game with identical one loss Region 7-AAAA and overall records, with Gilmer owning a five game winning streak. The streak came to a close as the Bobcats fell 42-19. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team hosted the Lafayette Ramblers on “Senior Night.” The Ramblers entered the game 2-6 on the season and 0-4 in Region 7-AAAA. Conversely the home team was 6-1 and 3-1. The “Cats” cruised to victory, lambasting Lafayette 62-27, largely on the legs of Russell Cochran who rushed for a school record 319 yards and five touchdowns. (more…)

The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team hosted the Northwest Whitfield Bruins in the third game of Region 7-AAAA play. Both teams entered the game 1-1 in the region, the home team “Cats” clinched the clutch victory, with a 33-30 win, secured by a late Garrett Ridgon touchdown catch. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team traveled the long road to Ridgeland High School for a region battle with the Panthers. The Bobcats came into the game 0-1 in Region 7-AAAA and 3-1 on the year, with the Panthers having the identical overall record but inverse region record. The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team officially opened the season hosting long-time rival, the Rebels of Fannin County High School. The Bobcats did not a miss a beat, coming in on the heels of last year’s state tournament berth, as the Bobcats beat the Rebels soundly, giving up only one score in a 41-7 sound victory. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team defeated the Fannin High School Rebels 41-7 in the opening game of the season for both long time rivals. Garrett Rigdon’s 70 yard interception return began a route that featured four Russell Cochran rushing touchdown (42, 6, 23, and 30 yards) and a 55 yard touchdown run from Chris James. (more…)
The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team took part in its second scrimmage of the year, with a trip to North Hall to take on the Trojans. The scrimmage featured a first half played with a game time clock and complete game play minus kick-off returns. Each team started drives on its own 30 yard line. The third quarter featured red zone work, and the fourth quarter saw the junior varsity and freshmen players getting playing time. The Bobcats went full beast mode on the Trojans, “winning” 49-14. With rising temperatures and the grass turning green, it can mean only one thing: it’s time for baseball! The Gilmer Bobcats had quite a busy first week, playing five total games over five days. The first was a scrimmage which was won against Gordon Central, but the real season started on Thursday. The Bobcats faced North Murray, followed by Gordon Central on Friday, and then Union County and Fannin County as part of a round robin on Saturday. While they would drop all four games, it is important to remember that this year’s baseball team is very young and raw but filled with talent. (more…)
“Wrap up!” and “Block, please!” were the common phrases coming from the sidelines during Gilmer High School’s second round football playoff match-up against Marist. Missed tackles, missed blocks, and false starts plagued the “Cats” throughout the game and made the 38-0 Marist win, more lopsided than it actually was. (more…)
It was Gilmer High School’s first home playoff football game since 1997 as the Bobcats played host to the Tigers of Troup County. Troup was coming in with a record of 6-4 to face a resilient Bobcat squad who posted an 8-2 record on the year. Despite being 14-point underdogs, the Bobcats stepped up with big plays and a stingy defense that held its ground, giving Gilmer the 26-22 victory in the first round of the GHSA playoffs. (more…)
