“What’s the Deal?” Braves Are the Best of the Worst in the NL Least

Opinion

The Atlanta Braves are playing less-than-stellar baseball coming out of the All-Star Break, as the team has managed a measly 3-4 record following a pair of series against the Chicago White Sox and the New York Mets, two teams that are not exactly lighting up the base paths so far this season. Braves Send Prado Packing to Unite Upton Brothers

Opinion, Team FYN Sports

The Atlanta Braves pulled off a blockbuster trade on Thursday, as the team completed a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks that brought outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson to Atlanta and sent utility man Martin Prado, pitchers Randall Delgado and Zeke Spruill, shortstop Nick Ahmed and first baseman Brandon Drury.

The deal sets the Braves up with arguably the best outfield in the majors, as the team will have Justin Upton, his brother B.J., and Jason Heyward all in the same outfield, putting together a trio that last year combined for 72 homeruns with 227 RBIs and a batting average of .265. (more…)

Braves Make Move for Maholm and Johnson

Team FYN Sports

The Atlanta Braves finally acquired a starting pitcher from the Chicago Cubs, but it wasn’t the one everyone assumed it would be. Late last night the team agreed to a deal that brings starting pitcher Paul Maholm and outfielder Reed Johnson to Atlanta and sends minor league pitchers Arodys Vizcaino and Jay Chapman to Chicago.

My Bad, Ben: A Sincere Apology to Mr. Sheets

Team FYN Sports

Dear Ben Sheets,

I would like to apologize to you for some of the comments I made concerning your signing with the Atlanta Braves over two weeks ago. I wasn’t the only one who had doubts about the Braves bringing in a thirty-three year old pitcher who had been out of baseball for over two years, and those doubts grew a bit following your first start with the AA Mississippi Braves, in which you gave up four runs in five innings of play.

Your mediocre start in the minors was soon followed by a call up to the League to face Johan Santana and the New York Mets, which appeared to me as sending a sheep to the wolves in the fact that you would merely take the loss against Santana, who had been pretty much lights out throughout the season, instead of one of the other starting pitchers in Atlanta’s rotation. Given the fact that your last season in MLB wasn’t too successful (posted a 4-9 record with a 4.53 ERA with the Athletics in 2010), I, along with the majority of Tomahawk Nation, wasn’t about to hold my breath. Potter Produces

Community, Opinion

To quote the great Rakim, “It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you.” I know I’ve let some readers and fans down the last few weeks, with “Transformers 3” and “The Hangover 2” coming out with no review in sight, plus the Braves won their 10,000th game and no comment whatsoever. My boss even asked me, “What happened to your column?” I’m sorry, but I just haven’t been moved by much lately. I guess I got lockout blues or something. That being said, if I want to be, “paid in full” I need to get to writing. (more…)

The Truth About Atlanta Apathy

Opinion, Team FYN Sports

Fans of Atlanta teams have had a bad rap from national pundits for far too long. I for one am sick and tired of the hog wash that is, “Atlanta fans are terrible.” It’s not true at all. Fans of Atlanta, or as Awesomevile from Dawsonville of Squidbillies fame would say “Etlanta,” teams are an extremely passionate bunch. The problem is we have been repeatedly tricked into believing that our team, be it the Braves, Falcons, Hawks, and soon to be relocating, Thrashers, will actually end a postseason holding up the championship trophy; only to watch as our team losses, often in embarrassing fashion, yet again.
