With rising temperatures and the grass turning green, it can mean only one thing: it’s time for baseball! The Gilmer Bobcats had quite a busy first week, playing five total games over five days. The first was a scrimmage which was won against Gordon Central, but the real season started on Thursday. The Bobcats faced North Murray, followed by Gordon Central on Friday, and then Union County and Fannin County as part of a round robin on Saturday. While they would drop all four games, it is important to remember that this year’s baseball team is very young and raw but filled with talent. (more…)

“Cats” Can’t Clinch Region Reign: But Bobcats Bound for State Host First First Round Game

The Gilmer High School Bobcats basketball team had one of its most successful seasons ever, and Gilmer was looking to add that elusive Region Championship to the accomplishments this team had achieved this year. Lady “Cats” Catch Columbus after Region Run

The Gilmer High School Lady “Cats” basketball team looked to build on a successful season with a strong showing in the Region 7-AAAA tournament, and the ladies did just that by earning a berth in the State Tournament. GHS faced SE Whitfield in the first round, NW Whitfield in the second, and finished the tournament against Heritage. The Lady “Cats” finished in third place good for a spot in the State Tournament, and a first round trip to Columbus High School. (more…)

Gilmer Extinguishes Dragons with Sweep

The Gilmer High School Bobcats and Lady “Cats” basketball teams traveled south to face their region rivals from Pickens High School, the Dragons and Dragonettes. It was the second time these teams had met this year, with the first coming in the annual Tip-Off Tournament. Gilmer got the sweep, with the Lady “Cats” clawing out a two point, 46-44 victory, and the Bobcat boys beating the Dragons 57-42. (more…)

Friday night saw the Gilmer Bobcats take on the River Ridge Knights in Woodstock. It was a night to forget for both the junior varsity and varsity, as neither was able to come away with a win. On Friday night, the Gilmer High School junior varsity and varsity Lady Bobcats basketball teams traveled to Woodstock to face the River Ridge Lady Knights for the first time this year. It was a trip that saw the Bobcats lose its first game of the year, in a below average game against Calhoun. Days two and three were much better though, as Gilmer got back to its winning ways. Lady “Cats” Mix It Up at Mistletoe Classic

The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats basketball team spent the better part of last week in Murray County participating in the Mistletoe Madness tournament. The Lady “”Cats” finished with a 1-2 record over the duration of the tournament. Wednesday night Gilmer lost to Sonoraville 54-37, then rebounded on Friday Night, destroying Christian Heritage 70-27. Saturday saw Gilmer face Dalton for the second time in as many weeks, but the Lady Catamounts was able to get the best of Gilmer’s “Cats” this time around. (more…)

Bobcats Clip War Eagles’ Wings: Comeback on Catamounts

It was another successful week for the Gilmer High School Bobcats basketball team as the guys stayed unbeaten on the year. Tuesday evening saw the Bobcats face the Chestatee War Eagles. The Bobcats clipped the War Eagles’ wings with ease and walked away with the win, 82-60. Friday night, Gilmer faced their toughest competition of the year in the Dalton Catamounts. The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats basketball team had mixed results last week, in two games played. On Tuesday night, the Lady “Cats” traveled to Gainesville to take on Chestatee, in a game full of unforced turnovers. These turnovers caused Gilmer to lose the game by a score of 40-37. Friday night, GHS traveled to Dalton to face the Lady Catamounts in an overall better game by Gilmer, which led to a 57-45 win. (more…)

The Gilmer Bobcats basketball team looked to stay undefeated on the young season as Gilmer played back-to-back days this past weekend. On Friday night, the “Cats” beat Fannin County 72-41 in a game where history was made. Saturday saw Gilmer take on a tougher Murray County squad, but they still managed a 63-48 victory. (more…)

Tuesday December 3rd, marked the first time the Gilmer basketball teams saw any game action since the Tip-Off Tournament during Thanksgiving week. Gilmer welcomed Gordon Central to town, and after the junior varsity squads won with ease, the Lady Bobcats clawed the Lady Warriors 53-28, while the Bobcats’ boys waxed the Warriors 87-63. (more…)

Bobcat Boys Bring Third Straight Title from Tip-Off Tournament

Led by the point scoring duo of Joe Bob Charles and Wheeler Lancey, the Gilmer High School Bobcats boys’ basketball team won its third straight Tip-Off Tournament title, going undefeated in the process.
